Terrible TL Accident

Hi All,

Hoping this isn't someone who frequents this site. A 2003 Acura TL was destroyed this weekend in Foxboro Ma. The owner is in serious condition now and his 2 children were unfortunately killed in the accident. Not sure if this is the correct forum, but I figured I'd post it here as the guy is only 27, so there's a good chance he's an Acurazine member, and could probably use the support of these forums if he is actually a poster here.

Here's what the TL looked like after:

Here's a link to the article: Accident on 95 in MAss

THey mentioned in the news last night that he fell asleep, it was around 3 am in the morning. He lost one of his legs . The car was literally torn into three or so pieces.

omg!.... that is so sad, I cant imagine the guilt he is going to feel since his 2 sons are dead and he injured his step daughter. I know this sounds terrible but if I were him I would have wanted to die.
At least they didnt mention any DUI or anything...

Check out the video link from this page. Link

They are investigating if there was any mechanical problem with the car that caused the accident. Can the tranny lock up or something causing this crash?? The car is an 03 TL-S.

Depressing!! I cant imagine regaining consciousness to be told that your children didnt survive the accident. As big a PITA as my kids can be, I cant even (and dont want to) imagine my future without them.

The driver lost a leg, his daughter in the front seat escaped with a broken arm and as was said, the two kids in the back seat were killed. On the news, the car was ripped in about 5 different pieces. The engine was completely detached from the car.

That strech of road that he was on is a really tough and as savage said, the roads were pretty wet that night. Such a sad story.

that looked like on thick pole, but he must have been going very fast to have the car shear apart like that, maybe he fell asleep and accelerated?? hopefully all in the car were asleep before the accident and didn't feel/see anything.

what a shame, make you think how fragile life is

In the United States, traffic fatalities have never gone into the 6-figures. In fact, the highest years have just made it over the halfway point to a 6-figure... figure; as in the low 50-thousand figure.

Still a lot of people anyway you look at it.

I've seen several cars torn into separate pieces during accidents (in 2 of the ones I saw, all 4 occupants of both cars were killed at the scene). And in both of these accidents, the drivers were doing over 90 MPH in one case and estimated over 110 in the other. One, a mid-60's Mustang convertible, hit a concrete overpass abutment straight on and the other, a 1965 Chevelle, hit a tree as I recall.

I wouldn't really call either of these incidents "accidents", because the drivers of both cars were deliberately driving at high speeds and endangering themselves, their passengers, other people on the highway, and public property. To tear a car in several pieces requires quite a bit of force, so I suspect the driver of this Acura in Foxboro was also guility of a serious oversight. Couple that with falling asleep and it's surprising that all of them weren't killed outright.

Now he's going to have to live the rest of his life with the weight of this on his shoulders. Lord knows, that is something I would never wish to face. All it takes is a small instant of time to change forever your life.

Sad story indeed. I hate to hear about stories like this.

When I drive in snowy/icy conditions without chains im pretty much going 15-25 mph TOPS. He must have been going quite fast, or was struck by someone who was traveling at a high rate of speed.

People need to SLOW down.

Sad Story.

If it did have something to do with the tranny that would be a big blow to honda/acura hopefully open their eyes and fix the problem

Man I have see some pretty banged up after-accident cars in my time where I'm from but dang - the front of the car literally disintergrated. Truely sad. Hope the survivors make it out of the hospitals ok.

TL is a car, no ?? Car get in accident, yes ?? Move to cartalk...

Looks like it was bad, and since it was local, it was probably a little icy out last night.

Jack_n_Coke, yeah, some members have reported the tranny locking up at highway speeds, which makes for an "interesting" ride... If you've got someone who's not that experienced with driving under extreme conditions (tranny locks up on wet or icy pavement), it doesn't take much to get ugly quick...

<--- Once had a blowout in a 78 vw bus going about 75... I had to change my shorts after that one
