rust on the rear hatch
wiper motor gear strips (made of plastic)
motor and transmission mounts dry-rot
A/C
radio

Other than that it's a very reliable car, the motor is very robust.
A close friend put over 150K on his 83 and it was auto-crossed alot.

Sorry I can't help you invisiblewar....

but I have to say I lusted after those Supras when I was in high school. I guess I am officially one of these now:
+1 on the reliability of those cars. They are pretty tough!

headgaskets, maybe a cooling issue but other than that its pretty solid, pretty much what Legend2TL said, but check the headgasket first, if I am not mistaken it has the 7m gte motor, those are notorious for blowing stock headgaskets.

That's the MK3 supra, 86-92, and you're right about the headgaskets on those. These MK2's are fine though. The only one I've driven was a lot of fun.

One last thing, if you want to keep it stock there are extremely few tire choices available. Someone I work with has a 1984, and he said Comp TA's are one of the last tires in the OEM size 225/60-14 available.

I had a 1984 Supra 5 speed for 6 years and it was a pretty reliable car when I owned it.
I liked the 5 speed a lot and the seats were pretty good too. Performance was good in its time but a 4cyl TSX will kill a Supra now so you won't be winning any races with that any more.

Mine got towed one time because an igniter failed- otherwise it was an easy to own car. I wound up replacing the radio too when the tape deck crapped out and that was about it. In their time, those cars were high theft- people were stealing them for the seats and wheels that also fit on the Celica. If the picture represents the one you're buying you will have a great buy.

Good luck!

I would love to have one of those cars ... I loved them as a high schooler.

Good luck!

Ah thanks I couldn't remember if they had the 7M in them I used to have a 88 and I went through 2 headgaskets before I finally went with a aftermarket one.
