Tailgating is stupid

I'm just enjoying a leisurely drive home on the expressway from work going 70 mph or so to save money on gas on the TSX and some moron in an older Volvo tails me for half a mile, why doesn't he change lanes? Do you think it was wrong for me to brake and when he passed me I wasn't thinking and I flashed my brights at him. But, that's it I just resumed normal driving after that.

Why don't idiots just pass you know?

if you were in the left, go into the right. As for tail-gating people, i usually just left off the gas, and if they continue, tap the brakes slightly to scare the shit out of them. Lastly, if you have a 3rd GEN TL use the windshield washer fluid, that'll get him

Tailgating usually means -get the fuck out of my way- yes its annoying, but its a lot easier to avoid than to deal with.

And apparently the middle lane is the new left lane

I usually try to ditch tailgaters. Just drop a gear or two, get on the gas, and dust the fool. I also switch lanes to avoid trouble. I wouldn't slow down because I have a greater fear of getting rear-ended.

i dont tailgate, but i will purposely get closer than people are comfortable with when they're driving in the left lane and there's absolutely nobody in the middle/right lane. if they dont move over after a couple seconds, i'll pass them on the right, move back into the left lane and slow down maybe 5-10 mph. after a couple seconds, i turn my right blinker on, move back into the middle lane, and continue on my way. it's a simple, safe way to let them know something's up. around my area, people dont understand that the left lane is only for passing, not just an extra lane.

i really wish the US highways were like the autobahn; where if you're in the left lane and not passing anyone, the police can ticket you.

^If US highways were like the Autobanh vehicular fatalities would increase ten-fold.

I hate it when dumbasses tailgate in traffic. Can't really do much but switch lanes, but then I'll be in a slower lane (I usually stay in the fastest-flowing lane). Otherwise on the freeway I usually am on the right lane, if some idiot decides to tailgate me I'll let off the gas and gradually slow down until they go around me. Or I'll flicker the emergency blinkers.

In those cases I do one of four things:

1. put on cruise control and ignore it (or drive slower)

2. pull a 'reverse pass' on them and then possibly ride their ass. I usually do this on empty ass roads where passing is legal, because like you said, the idiots for some reason find it better to ride my ass like a pornstar instead of just going around me.

3.-my fav: stick my hand out the window and give them the "stop signal" with my hands...as lame as it sounds, it has worked very well with me and people usually back off. It gets the damn point across without starting road rage.

4. Dust them.

Tailgating is stupid. PERIOD.

When we're in the carpool lane driving at 70mph, and someone tailgate us, I will stay in my lane and mind my own damn business. And if the fucker decide to pass and did get in front of us, he should be going faster than 70mph and increasing his distance from us. Or else, I might just overtake him again. Sometime....

I do this too, and usually tap on the brakes. If they rear end me it's their fault for being on my ass and I'll have my lawyer's number handy.

Usually, I tap on the brake mildly for the first time. If he continues, then I press the brake pedal ALOT harder than the first one.

werd. I usually tap the brake w/ my left foot, and don't really slow down at all. But then again, my brake lights engage far before my brakes actually do, so it's pretty easy.

After they see the brake lights, they'll usually get in the next lane over and pass like a normal person.

I just let off the gas, but only if they are tailgating, not accelerating up on me real quick. When that doesn't work I usually tap the brakes or use the blinkers to get my message across. In Pa it is a law that the left lane is for passing only. This happened when someone related to our governor got in an accident where that played a role. Problem is they still do a poor job of enforcing the law when it comes to the left-lane passing only rule.

Though I have this tendency when trailing a slow car in the left lane, tailgating is NOT something I recommend.....particularly here in NJ where traffic can go from highway speeds to a dead stop in the blink of an eye.

I just get out of the way and let them pass. It's not worth my time to f with them and slow down or hit the brakes to try and piss them off. But I'm no angel. Hog the left lane and don't move over and the gloves are off.

Honestly, there wouldn't be a problem if people were able to properly analyze traffic flow and move out of the way or speed up if they think they are the cause of the traffic slow-down.

And that applies to all lanes, because depending on many factors, sometimes the right lanes can become the fast lanes. Of course, left lane bandits are the worst offenders of them all, but people who are stubborn enough to think "Oh, I'm in the middle lane, screw everyone else" is not any better.

If the same car had been right next to you in the fast lane for the last 5 miles, then chances are that there is traffic backed up. Be considerate enough to move out of the middle lane or speed up to relieve the traffic congestion.

It's not that hard... all you have to do is look in the rear view mirror once in a while. That's ALL it takes. Stop blabbering on the cell phone, putting on your make-up, stuffing your fat face with fast food... and actually drive for a change. And I don't mean just press the pedals and turn the steering wheel. Driving takes more than those simple operations. Driving is about sharing the road with other motorists. It's not your property. You may not see the necessity to go 75 in 70, but others may. And on some days, you may be in a hurry and need to go 75 in 70. Just be considerate and learn how to eye the traffic situation. You don't need to be a Rhodes Scholar to be able to do that.

If you are in the left lane, you have an obligation to go as fast as the car in front of you.

It is not your job to enforce the speed limit. GTF over.

No one will ever be held up by me, if I am in the left lane.

You can drive whatever speed you want, just not in the left lane.

And if I am doing all this and someone still gets up my ass - to where I can't see their headlights - I simply fade onto the shoulder and kick up the debris out there! Works every time.

In San Antonio, TX It's illegal to be in the far left lane and not passing on certain highways, I don't know which ones cause I don't live there but I remember driving from the airport seeing those signs on the highway.

I always avoid tailgating and speeding... but there are those times when i'm late and i need to get somewhere in a hurry....
when someone isn't passing anybody in the far left lane I tailgate them and they usually get the point in 3 seconds or so and kindly move outta the way (I hate to apply stereotypes here, i really do hate it, but I have not seen otherwise...) unless they're foriegners, they don't get the point to move the fark outta d way, that's when flash the high beams (works 1/6 times) or I have to drive like an idiot and change like 5 lanes.

Does the TSX not look menacing or badass from the rearend at all at night?

This time some idiot college student was following too close to me and i'm in the right lane, this isn't on the freeway, but just a normal road with 4 lanes. well, i made the person go slower because i braked and then wanted to teach the moron a lesson by going just at the 40 mph speed limit and then took off all of a sudden. After servicing the TSX at the Acura dealer for the 40K service it feels better now in pickup.

Maybe it's the time I drive home too because I'm on 2nd shift I drive home around 10pm at night. More idiotic drivers at night because you can't see them?

I was being tailgated the other night by a big ass ford econovan. We were going down a steep ass hill with tons of sharp turns and he was riding my ass. At some points his headlights disappeared behind me, that's how close he was. So i brake checked the fool and his ass kept his distance.
