synth19's NSX Purchase Thread***LATEST PICS- page 10**

Now that spring is finally here, and I should be getting my Z back from the shop (went in for a final tune), & I can be a bit more serious in selling the car and looking for an NSX.

I have narrowed down the year to 2002-2004, less then 35k miles. Color would either be long beach blue or spa yellow. My FIRST choice is the long beach blue, but I can get a much better deal on the spa yellow.

I do like the yellow, but it would be somewhat of a compromise since it is not my first choice. But the savings would be substantial for the same year, miles, etc.

About 7-10k price difference.

For reference, stock pics:

LBBP

Honestly I LOVEEE Spa Yellow!! IMO, it stands out more, and shines WAAAYYY more than LBBP. I got some pics of my friends' spa yellows... Gotta dig them up!

5K is a lot but I'd go with the blue since thats what you initially wanted. Getting the yellow and owning it as you said would be a bit of a compromise, every time you'd look at the car you would think "what if I had gotten the blue?"

Always get exactly what you want...otherwise, you will eventually have regrets. And personally, I think the blue looks better.

I nearly voted blue or bust, but then I looked at the pictures and think the NSX can pull off yellow, for a car in better condition, i.e. lower miles, overall better shape and for less money I would get the yellow over the blue all day long... did I mention I'm a jew? I would prefer blue, but for $10k I would be in a yellow one .

The only color I'd trade my car for + cash for an exact identical one aside from color is white.... even though I never found one, I still kinda wish I waited. I don't regret it and you can't go wrong with those two colors but like someone said you don't wanna be the one to say "what if I got the blue?"

Some cars just look great in yellow ... I think the NSX could be one of them but not with those wheels.

Being Jewish has nothing to do with it

It's called being smart not paying $5000 for an arbitrarily popular color.

^ I agree with you, wheels would be a MUST change if I picked up Yellow... after seeing a yellow with this wheel setup, not sure if yellow is REALLY a compromise or not...

For those who picked "Blue no matter what- do not compromise," Are you in favor of the blue color, or just the fact that you wouldnt want to compromise in my case?

I had to edit the frist post, the difference in price would be 7-10k from what I have recently seen in the NSX market (comparable years, miles, only real difference is color).

10k is a lot but then my guess yellow is harder to sell if you ever want to. You plan on keeping this for a long time then?

Since its not my money, i still say Blue just because it looks better on the NSX. IMO

My money, get the yellow and save the 10k for some nice mods.

I wouldn't want to compromise, but I would wait for a blue one at a good price. Not sure if it'll happen though....

LBBP is my favorite color on an NA2 NSX, though for a $10k difference I would be in the yellow one too

Have to agree with what Jesel said as well. There is a reason why blue is popular/expensive, even down the road if you do decide to sell the car just know that blue would fetch you more money than the yellow .

Since you have done your research let me ask you this, is blue the only color that is more money or is it that a yellow NSX is less money than the rest? That should be a dead give away as to why the market is low for the yellow one and not the others .

I will probably keep the car for a LONG time since it is becoming somewhat of a collectors item and prices seem to becoming stable or even appreciating. Generally speaking, all NSX's are hard to sell...but their is a market for them, and they do sell eventually. A typical NSX owner would rather sit on a car, then compromise a fair market price. But with that said, certain color combos/miles/etc. can go REALLY quick since their are alot of ppl ou there simply waiting for the "right" NSX. Yellow is pretty popular from what I can muster, except for the yellow/yellow combo. I can get an 03 yellow/black for around 35k miles. Another one (not "officially" for sale) would be sold to me for 55k today if I wanted (2003/35kmiles) (yellow/yellow).

I think the market is defined by supply and demand, for 2002 and 2003, stats are this:

Blue (manual): 37 sold
Yellow (manual): 83 sold

As far as prices and which will retain its value, at this point, prices are balancing/tapering off. Either car would retain it's value, but relatively to the price range for the particular color.

Never compromise on something as important as color...
There are things you can compromise on, like "do I really need those mirror heaters?"...big f'in deal... however color, is NOT one of those things in my opinion.
I can promise you you will see a nicely detailed blue NSX at a meet sometime and regret getting a yellow one, even if only for a second.

Oh, a yellow/yellow combo!?

If you are willing to spend an extra 10K for a blue NSX, why not just buy any color NSX and then get it painted to whatever color you want? There might even be some non-Honda color like BMW Laguna Seca Blue that you might like better. And of course then you can add or keep out all of the metallic and/or pearl that you want, add tints, extra clear coats, etc. and the paint job will be brand new.

He is considering this a collector's item and painting it would destroy that.

Gotcha. But in that case, any type of modding it would alter its OEM state, and could decrease the value of the car.

You can always put a car back to stock easily when doing basic mods.

Yeah, I know.. but it all depends on how patient I am... If I REALLy want something, I'm not the type of person who compromises. But the thing is, I also like yellow... but just "not as much." So it really is a matter of "Do I go with choice # 1 or choice #2." Rather then, "Ewww.. I hate yellow, but it's cheap!!!, so I'll get it!"

Rule number one: Get exactly what you want with no compromises.

Even if you pay more, its worth it in the end since you will keep it forever. I wouldnt pick one color over the other due to rarity, unless I happened to really like it too.

7-10K is alot of money on the other hand, so I can understand the dilemma. If it were 2K difference, it's a no-brainer...

It's not my money, so I say go with the better re-sale... Yellow ones have got to be harder to sell than other colors or there wouldn't be such a big price difference...

I love yellow cars, but I don't think I could pull it off... I don't think I'm a "yellow car guy" My brother actually said something similiar to me when I bought my red CLS.... "I didn't think you were a red car guy"...
