If she's the one driving, I think she'll like the RX and ML best. Not that she'll be a brand whore, but those cars has the features and ambience that suits the taste of people who thinks about spending $40K+. My wife fell in love with the RX350 after sitting in it during the test drive.

The new FX is smoking hot, though it might be appealing to mostly male drivers like me.

Guess we are a Honda family after all.
I thought all teh 's were Toyota fanbois.

You simply can't go wrong with the MDX. Great value, nice handling for the size/weight, great resale, nice features, yadayada. Personally, I think the ML350 is the closest in comparison and after a test drive, was sorely dissapointed. The interior looked sub-par compared to the MDX, driving dynamics weren't better (imo slightly worse) and the same features had to be optioned up to 12k more - no thanks.

Funny thing is brother wants the ML350 and his wife wants the FX. Based on looks of course.

I want to know when it became a crime to buy a car you actually LIKE and can afford. 99% of us fit into this category.

So you mean to tell us CS that you bought your BMW strictly for the value? Oh no, no brand whoring there.

Difference is that im a car guy and enjoy driving. If i wanted a car with a nice badge that was a bore then i would buy a Lexus or Mercedes.

Your argument is weak, i could easily say that you bought your Acura TL-S because of the brand name. Why not save the money and get a Honda Accord. Almost the same thing.

Love how you keep bashing the TL-S...Keep it up, its great for a laugh.

Point is your calling them brand whore's simply because they don't want to buy a cheaper car.

uh they havent driven anything and already dismissed the cheaper cars. They know nothing about what these cars have to offer. Thats my issue with them.

I at least drove everything before choosing what car I wanted. I didnt just buy the most expensive car that i can afford.

I drove your TL-S as well and can see why you are so bitter.

That's a bit harsh, the 6MT TL-S is pretty much the best F/F saloon in the market. Below teh belt.

^ Exactly. I said that to show brand name doesnt matter to car guys. We pick the cars that are enjoyable to drive.

We all know I enjoy honda products.

So cross the ML350 off the list. My brother is a moron and got it confused with the GL. I was wondering why he wanted the ML so bad... Of course the GL is out of the price range.

My dad had an 07 ML350 for a few months, but getting made fun of by his golf buddies for driving a soccer mom car got to him and he sold it

Red face

And... the BMW wins.

He narrowed it down to the MDX and the X5 3.0. We drove them both tonight back to back and he liked the X5 more.

Frist he drove the X5 and commented on how he liked the engine and handling. He also said it was roomy in the back seats. Which it was. He loves the styling inside and out. At the end he commented how he thought $53k was mostly for the name. So we left...

So then we saw the MDX. He preferred this interior over the X5. But let me say... WTF, for a large SUV it has terrible leg room in the back. Lots of cargo room though compared to the X5. With the 3rd row up, the cargo room was the same in both. It drove nice and it does come with a lot of options standard and its much cheaper. But you can tell the build quality felt lower on the MDX. It also wasnt as well insulated as the X5. He commented on how BMW's price wasnt just for the name but you can actually feel why its more. I swear I didnt make that part up.

He mainly crossed the MDX off because of the back seat having poor leg room. Also the gas mileage is better on the X5 and the free service is a plus. He still thinks the MDX was a great car and well worth the money. Which I agree. Though he says the X5 got him more excited. He really didnt get into much detail about both cars so sorry the review was short.

He didnt buy anything tonight. Hes going to drag his wife to see the X5 and see what she says.

I wonder if they are being brand whores because of sibling rivalry. My brother and sister-in-law have a Pilot now. I nor my parents didn't tell them I bought a BMW till I was close to leaving to pick it up. Now my brother has car envy like nobody's business. I wouldn't be surprised if they traded up the Honda Pilot for a Lux SUV like an ML or X5

In any case, the MDX has a nicer interior, but the X5's exterior is top notch, I drool every time I see one.

The X5 is definitely a good pick. Car enthusiast or not, I'm actually surprised that he liked the 3.0 liter motor in the X5 which I personally thought to be a little anemic. Maybe because I had driven the 4.8 right before. Be careful with the options list, your base price could easily go pretty high if he wants all the bells and whistles.

Thats the thing, his wife will be driving it so they dont need all the gadgets. She wouldnt use them. So the MDX is sorta overkill with all the cool stuff in it.

They will be the basic options on the X5. Might even talk them into leatherette since they never treat their leather in their cars. Plus they wouldnt be able to tell the difference.

We will see what happens after his wife looks at it this week.

Ok forget it. You can lock this thread now.

His wife says she would be too nervous driving a 50k car so now the BMW is off the list. They going to go look at a used Highlander. Freaking women, why didnt she say something before we started all this!

Seriously! She knew what cars were on the list and she knew we were going to look at them yesterday.

Figures she pulls this crap right when my brother finally picks a car.

Oy! Guess theres no point in getting a nice car if you too nervous to drive it. I really rather see them in that Mazda than the Highlander. But we will see. For now im not updating this thread anymore since im even annoying myself with it.

What do you mean she would be too nervous driving a 50k car?? Hell, it's a luxo-family suv, not a supercar!

From a NEW X5 to a USED Highlander?

Why not a new highlander?

Might be shocker for you but there are people who think 50k is a lot of money. So i can understand her reasoning.
