been doin some SUV research myself

the MDX is definitely a better buy compared to the X5 3.0 but the 3.0 doesn't have the same "umphf" on the butt dyno. i can live with the MDX grille especially after seeing how someone painted it matte black.

the CX-9 looks good on paper but the styling isn't my cup of tea.

i think Honda Finance has the MDX at 2.9% for 3 years or 4.9% for 4-6 years. not bad!

No Enclave?

This might get me flamed but the Veracruz seats 7.

Doesn't look bad either.

You can probably get a good deals on most cars now. Last month was a HORRIBLE month for sales including Acura but I think almost every company was down some. I bet invoice pricing wouldnt be hard to get on almost any car now.

I wouldn't look much further past the CX-9 and MDX. While the 3rd row in those 2 isn't exactly perfect, its next to useless in the X5. No point in it even being there IMO.

My wife drives a 2007 CX-9, and we both absolutely love it. We have almost 16,000 miles on ours and it has been a great vehicle. Although it is a big vehicle, it does not drive like one. It really drives like a sports sedan. We purchased the Grand Touring AWD model with every option, and it's a hell of a lot of vehicle for the money.

We purchased ours in April of last year, and we still get questioned weekly about our CX-9. Most are really surprised to learn it's a Mazda.

Here is a picture of ours.

Which one did you buy that you had a bad experience with?

That CX-9 looks really good!

Well, yeah; it's Hyundai. Of course it won't be considered.

I'll admit, I wouldn't consider it either. Incredibly tarnished brand image. Besides; if you're seriously considering a $50k vehicle, would you seriously take a Hyundai seriously (even if it is thousands less?)

I wouldn't even second guess myself. I would certainly choose the Genesis WITH A RWD V8 over that new Acura RL.

OP said it himself, cheaper the better.

My point to this was that the OP and many others had such a manlove boner for Hyundai in another thread, saying "why be such a badge whore" yada, yada, yet when the time comes to actually make a purchase consideration, say "Hyundai" and you hear crickets.

Theres no crickets, i was just ignoring you.

I didnt know the Hyundai had a 3rd row so i put it on the list. They will be checking it out as well now.

But i didnt see the point in talking about it till next thursday after all the test drives. Ill take pics for proof if you need them.

Personally I know they wont go for the Mazda or Hyundai just because the interior of the MDX is far better.

Ill be honest, I ignored the Hyundai since i was thinking it was their old small SUV.

I just recently went to look at the 08 model online and didnt know they upgraded it in 07. Looks great now inside and out and has a 3rd row.

A good read.

1st Place: Hyundai Veracruz Limited AWD
Does everything well and advances the brand. A nice blend of value and luxury touches.

2nd Place: Lexus RX 350
Still a well-polished piece, if you want everything that goes with the badge. and are willing to pay a bit more for it.

no need to go through multiple pages of another hyundai debate and thread-crap a good, informative thread.

Take a look at the awards and accolades that the CX-9 has accumlated since it's release last April.

Awards to date, through February 25, 2008:
-- 2008 North American Truck of the Year
-- 2008 SUV of the Year, Motor Trend Magazine
-- Kelley Blue Book "Best New Family Vehicle"
-- Cars.com "Best New Car for Large Families"
-- Cars.com "Family Car of the Year"
-- 2008 Automobile Magazine All-Stars
-- "Best in Class" for large/mid-size crossovers in Kiplinger's Personal
Finance annual Car Buying Issue
-- Car and Driver 5 Best Trucks for 2008 - March 2008
-- Consumer Guide - "Best Buy" midsize sport-utility vehicle
-- 2007 Edmunds.com Editors' Most Wanted Vehicles for SUV under $35,000
-- Southeast Automotive Media Organization (SEAMO) "Family Car of the
Year."
5-stars ratings in frontal and side impact crashes from the US government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) vehicle safety tests and a top rating of Good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for front and side crash protection.

Not too shabby for a "Mazda"

Like I said earlier, it's a great vehicle, and people need to get past the "it's a Mazda" mentality and look at it with an open mind.

Brother called Yep, im adopted.

He says the wife has choosen these in order of what they want first. Guess now the 3rd row isnt a priority since she likes how the others look.

ML350
FX35/FX37
MDX
RX350
X5 (last only because ONE of their friends has issues with theirs)

I asked them what happened to all the other picks i had made, he says "oh well we want a NICE car" which means they being brand whores.

Keep in mind they have yet to drive anything. I given up trying to help them, i just will make sure they dont get suckered into buying "rust protection" type of packages.

Although it would be kinda cool if they got the new FX.

I have a buddy with a wife like this ... Had a '99 Maxima. Had, HAD to have a Mercedes ... Went looking at C300s ... Oh no, that's too small. 3-series? No, simply too small.

What started out as a $38k C300 turned into a $52k 528i.

Fucking women are teh devil. Get a job and buy your own fucking car!

Well to be fair she does work and has been driving her 99 RX300 for awhile now without complaining.

My brother is pushing it more than anything since small things are going wrong with the Lexus.

They are really cheap with everything else so im kinda shocked about them wanting a $50k car.

I have a thing about lazy women spending their S.O's money

If he does get the ML I say get the deisel version. I know a family with a deisel GL and they love it. Apparently its not much more and it really pays off for itself fast.

Also I know this is a bit off topic but since the MDX is mentioned does anyone else like that new MDX commerical? The one that goes "it wasnt lexus bmw mercedes it was the Acura that won caranddrivers test." I think they are finally getting the message (at least with commericals anyway).
