"Sunshades" any useful?

Talking about these if there's any confusion.

If it's to reduce heat inside the cabin, wouldn't the sun coming from the side windows cancel this effect out? Unless its real purpose is to minimize any damage to the dash over time or so the steering wheel wouldn't be so damned hot when you start driving?

Just didn't wanna waste my money is all.

Its worth it if you leave your car out in the sun all day.

Tint and that sunshade makes for a killer combo.

If you have tinted windows very little sun will end up getting in the car.

It's not very useful, but it does make a small difference. I have the one that folds into a little circular thingy when you don't use it. The accordion-like ones are too bulky.

Didn't wanna tint the car and get a ticket .. "Don't do anything illegal if you can't afford it", right? If I did go for tint, they'd be something like 20% or around there lol.

But damn, does it get hot in there after leaving it outside for 8, 9 hours ..

I've used a sunshade in all my cars and the days I get lazy and don't put it up are the days I notice how much of a difference they make.

Introtech sunshades FTW!

FYI - to anyone in southern california, I have an introtech sunshade for the CL-S that i'll give to anyone that is willing to pick it up. I'm not gonna deal with shipping, but I figure someone in so cal can get some use out of it.

I got one from walmart that folds up like an accordian. I use them in all cars and they do make a difference. Especially when parked for a few hours in the school parking lot during afternoons. I have black leather seats and they do get hot if exposed to the sun. So yea they are very useful and will save you from touching hot steering wheel, shift knob, leather seats.

Tint and sunshade will definitely help, but won't eliminate the problem.

I just ordered an introtech sunshade. My car sits in the blazing sun all day at work, so it could use some help. I have tint on the back 3 windows and it does help a little bit.

My color choice has been NBP, so I'm getting tints & shades up all the time if I park the car outside ...

If I don't use one I can barely hold onto my shift knob because the top is metal. I use mine 365 days a year. Out here in Arizona it's a must.

Just roll down all your windows with your remote key before you get into your car. I do that all the time before I enter my car.

Its a combination of both things you said....preventing damage to the dash/interior as well as keeping as much heat out as possible. The damage is what would be first on my mind though.

Is that a C5 Vette in the pic?

Yes, sun shades are useful, especially in a car without tint and a huge ass windshield/dashboard like the Vette. I guess you'll be fine in Alaska, but in any area where the temps reach mid-80's and 90+ with lots of sun, its a must.

And my Heatshield fits perfectly.

I actually relocated to Utah last October, with my car following closely behind .. These 90-degree temps have been hell [ pun intended ] on an Alaskan.

BTW I have no clue what car that is, I thought it was a Pontiac WS6 or something, from the hoodlines.

Get the sun shades- I only use them on hot days when the car is parked outdoors all day in SoCal. The silver fabric/wire ones that fold into a little circle are easier to deal with than the folding rectangular cardboard/foil ones-- my fabric ones cost something like $3 or $4 from the local Big Lots (overstock store); the exact same ones are less than $10 at Target, and I imagine the prices are pretty low at Walmart and Kmart.

Not to sound like a brand-whore or anything but the ones that fold up into a circle are cheap. The metal ring inside eventually ripped through the one my mom uses and can't retain its shape anymore. I got her the Heatshield and she loves it.

Yes, they're helpful in reducing the temp (maybe 10 degrees or so is what they advertise) in you car if you did not have one.

Definitely works, with tint it probably eliminates 15+ degrees and the benefit of not having a 150 degree steering wheel helps.

Get a Heatshield or Introtech or other custom shade.

I just always try to park facing the sun to maximize the shield's effectiveness.
