Summer shifter solution

It's that time again. Pollen. Sun. Skirts.

And second-degree burns.

For those of us with stainless shift knobs, summer is an absolute bitch. I got through it okay last year, but I'm going to need to find a solution this time. I've tried one of my son's socks, but I still have to shift with it on for a while before the ambient air does it's job. The cloth does just enough to keep my hand from burning, but not enough to prevent the heat from building.

I know this is an issue for anyone with this modification, regardless of the car (which is why it's not in the TL section). My bud is probably experiencing the same thing out in NM with his 911. Any thoughts on the issue? Besides reverting to stock for the summer?

Take a look at this http://www.ricks2k.com/products/AllL....php#KnobSocks I have something similar and while it does help block the sun's heat a lot, it's still pretty hot in the summer but definitely tolerable

That looks interesting. I was afraid to google 'knob condom' while I was at work, I'm not sure knob sock would have been much better.

I've left my hat on it before, but it wasn't a great solution.

This. put a cloth over it while you're gone during the day.

It's even better when people wearing them don't take them off when they get out of the car.

Apparently, every day is an 80's Michael Jackson video for them.

I don't know if I could wear a glove during normal commuting, lol. The knob sock totally defeats the purpose of having an aftermarket shift knob. I do put a cloth over my shift knob sometimes, but it doesn't always seem to work?

Exactly. Which is why I need another solution.

I think I would use the knob cover by putting it on when I get out of the car, and take it off when I get back in.

No shade at work. I'm apparently not senior enough to park in the deck.

sock over the shift knob with a Crown Royal bag over the top of that

That said I've started to appreciate my stock shift knob more. It's leather, not weighted, but the knob itself is bigger so I can put more leverage on it and have more control

It's rather odd: how hot it gets varies with no discernible relation to temperature, direction I've parked, etc. It should have been smoking hot yesterday (no clouds, I forgot to cover the knob, didn't crack the sunroof) and it wasn't burning hot. Just rather warm, something I can deal with. Cooler than when I cracked the roof and covered with a white sock the other day. Strange.

I put on the stock knob when I got out to my car, and immediately said fuck that. I think I may make a DIY version of that S2K knob sock.

How about this with a small piece of foil on the cloth? The foil should reflect most of the heat/light...

I actually am considering it, though. It would be a nice conversation starter on my desk.

Oh yea summer is a bitch with these Maven shift knobs. I can stand an extremely cold shift knob but not a hot shift knob. I bought these on amazon for three dollars shipped. iSock for the ipod nano

I really wish they came in black but gray is the closest color I can find that matches my interior.

Could probably sew one up out of an old black dress sock, if the ribs are tight enough.

I tried one of the thinner dress socks, and it was a total bust. Needs to be a heavy material.

You said you already tried one of your son's socks. What is different about this? Seems about the same thickness as a white athletic type sock...

Thick wool will insulate it much better from heat than the cotton will.

And I'm laughing that you guys wouldn't just grab an old hiking sock and sew it up.
