the suck

I just got my first, erm, second ticket ever. I was driving my roommate to go pick some stuff up and on my way back I was speeding, no one was near me and I wasnt going to terribly fast, 50 in a 35. I pull into my complex and goto park and a cop goes and puts his lights on me. He gave me a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt.

Do you think I could goto court and fight the seatbelt ticket?? The cop asked me why I was not wearing one and I told him because this was where I lived and I was parking

You were speeding and he probably just cut you a break by giving you a seatbelt ticket. It's a cheap ticket, just pay for it!

15 over is a good amount over. Suck it up. Seat Belt ticket > Speeding ticket. How much is the ticket?

You have to wear the seat belt until the car comes to a complete stop. I dont know if he has jurisdiction to give tickets inside the parking lot for the complex?

I guess you can try if you have time.

As much as I don't like saying this, there are ways around that. Let me first say 50 in a 35 is 15 OVER the limit is a lot, not a little. Thank god that you didnt get a 300+ dollar ticket for speeding. Next time, DON"T speed.

For the seatbelt ticket, did you wear your seatbelt the whole time or not? If not, SHAME ON YOU. If you did, you can get around the ticket by explaining your actions to the judge.

Getting a seatbelt ticket has got to be pretty embarassing, I mean how much effort does it take to put it on?

you noob. it takes .02889 seconds to put on a seatbelt. when you crash and faceplant your steering wheel and have a fat acura A on your forehead for the rest of your noobish life, dont bitch about it.

(sorry I work in an ER and if people wore seatbelts, alot of them would be much better off.)

^ but if my forehead is imprinted with the A i could rep acura wherever i go and would never have to say acura. I know i was totally in the wrong here, and it sucks because the first time i really ever got pulled over was for my tint.

sucks dude, i dont wear my seatbelt either...but when i get pulled over, the tint helps me sneak it on real fast...i would fight it, youre a college student in a college town...cant hurt to go to the judge and tell him what you told the officer about the seatbelt, and just hope that the officer/judge are in a good mood when they decide to discuss the main reason why you got pulled over...regardless, you got off pretty easy and paying the fine and moving on isnt such a bad idea either...good luck

You'd be surprised how many refuse to wear seat belts. I have a few good friends, who aren't stupid yet they don't like wearing them, I don't understand it. Statistically it will probably save your life and it's such an easy thing to prevent yourself from being harassed by cops.

I've found a large number of the anti-seat belt crowd are volunteer fire fighters, they always have the same line "I've pulled dead people out of cars wearing seat belts." Maybe there is some truth to it, but I know I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for a seat belt.

I used to be a part of the anti-seatbelt crowd. Now, I can't drive without it. It saves lives, guys. It's simple to do, just throw it on and go.

Although I agree with everyone saying it saves lives and I do wear my seatbelt every time I'm in a car, I do not think people should be given a ticket if they choose not to wear one. If someone wants to be stupid enough to not wear a seatbelt that is their choosing and they will pay for it in an accident.

The problem is litigation, otherwise I completely agree. If someone is dumb and decides to not wear a seat belt and is killed in an accident it costs everyone else more money for insurance premiums. So by requiring people to wear them it actually saves everyone a lot of money, which is why it is a law.

Yea and they don't have to pull dead people out of cars without seatbelts... because they get ejected onto the road I really don't understand it either, they're there for a reason it's not some conspiracy to get people to strap into a deathtrap. It's not even comfortable to drive around without them anyways when you're sliding around

See if you can get it waived in exchange for some sort of traffic school - you know the class where they the show the movie with all the gross details of what happens to people who don't wear seat belts and get in accidents.

Start wearing your seat belt, slow down (most places you can by at 5 - 7 mph over, but not 15) and be careful.
