Suburu Outback 2.5i
Any experience with this?
A family member is leasing one. it was this, the rogue, equinox or new tuscon. lease PMTs for the buru prevailed (well under 400/mo all in). I will be driving it occasionally, but i dont know what to expect. its an auto, AWD, cloth, no-nav, sunroof, V-4, with a surprising single CD player. jeez, my 25.5k 2001 CL-P has more standard equipment.

Well, it's an H-4, or flat for (for the record). The power, I think, is about 175 ponies. So no speed racer type stuff.
If it will be in true winter conditions, a set of dedicated snow tires is a must. That will make it absolutely excellent in snow. But the nice part about the AWD is it's really symmetrical, in that there's no real front/rear bias like a lot of other systems are.
No features? Wow. But the seats are very comfortable, almost to the Volvo standard (which I feel are the best seats in a sanely priced vehicle). The steering wheel is a Momo, so the 9/3 and 10/2 positions should feel real good. But an Outback does sit a bit higher than a normal wagon, so it may feel tall, but it's not that bad.
Enjoy and post up anything that comes up. I take it it is a 2010? The new design? Post pics too.

What do you mean, "You don't know what to expect"? You'll be driving it occasionally. Enjoy....or don't, and then choose not to borrow it.
I've always found that the base engines always lacked power... but otherwise, they're alright.

The only issue the new 2010 Outback 2.5i have is a vibration on the steering wheel when the car goes above 65mph. Not all new Outbacks have experience this. Checkout the Outback forum for more info.
Since I have a 2006 Imperza Outback Sport, I think the 2.5i engine have enough power for normal driving. The CVT transmission gets you a few more miles to the gallon of gasoline. I have driven a rental 2010 Outback 2.5i and I was quiet impressive with the built of the car.

It's funny because in Marin you see the Birkenstock crowd driving them but in SF it's butch women with short hair. My friend back east has an Outback and his family loves it. I guess each market is different. I do give Subaru props for sticking with the Boxer engine I just wish they'd put more juice in it. And Lesbaru is a common name for those cars!

The 2.5 is quite underpowered indeed for such a heavy car. However those seats were about the most comfortable I've sat into for a while.

You work at a dealer. Anyone trade in a Subie for an MB? Maybe a bit of a stretch.
OP: It will be a good car. http://subaruoutback.org and http://legacygt.com are good places to get started.
