Stupid Volkswagon!!

Salutations all! I talked to my girlfriend last night and her VW dealer charged her $250 to replace one headlight on her 2003 Passat! They told her that the light encasement could not be removed to just replace the bulb...they said the whole light had to be replaced! I don't know if that is true and I do not have her owner's manual so I cannot research this on my own. I cannot imagine $250 for one headlight!!! My TSX should be here mid-April and then I am going to start pricing one for her...that way she will know what a QUALITY product is!

Is it possible to buy VW replacement parts at just any old parts shop?
Not even "import" type shops carry that kind of stuff, more likely for Hondas and Nissans.

They may be right on this one. We have a 99 Passat, the headlight housing for a 99 and 03 are not too different. When I changed the stock bulbs with some hyper whites, the plastic housing surrounding the connectors of the bulb cracked. Thats VW quality for you! I am assuming if the plastic surrounding the connector cracked really bad they might have not been able to replace just the bulb.

Did she go into the dealer just to have her bulb replaced? Has she ever replaced that bulb in question? If she hasn't touched the bulb at all the dealer may have broke the housing behind the bulb. They may be trying to cover up their mistake. I don't know exactly whats up here, but if she hasn't touched anything the housing should have been intact. All I know is that the car has very delicate parts. Man, I love my TL!

I am pretty sure it was just a bulb because nothing else went out...don't think there was a fuse involved.

Yeah...the dealer really two-holed her on the price!

Its very possible. My TL headlight cost me $400 after SHOPPING AROUND. It is sold only as a complete unit. The bulbs/housing obviously ARE sold separately at any decent store.

what year? on ebay, they sell the full housing with the light. Is it possible to change the fog light by itself?
