Street Race..2000 TL VS. Dodge Ram

my buddy challenged me to a race the other day claiming his ride (a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500) could beat "anything"...so i began to think its a truck its got some power it prob could beat my stock 2000 3.2 TL so i gave him that much..but then he began to talk about how his dodge could take my cousin's ride 2004 infiniti G35 sedan, and i was quite skeptical about that and saying that it prob just beat it off the line cuz of the high torque but not in the end...i was just wondering if any pro's out there can give me some true knowledge on what can beat what... thanx
(all cars are automatic trans)

1998 Dodge Ram 1500
V8
5 litre
i think ** 230 hp @4400 rpm
as well ** torque 300 @ 3200 rpm

2004 Infiniti G35 Sedan
v6
3.5 Ltr
260 hp @ 6000 rpm
torque 260 @ 4800

2000 Acura 3.2 TL
V6
3.2 litre
225 hp @ 5600 rpm
torque 217 @ 4700 rpm

I would appreciate any advice...ThankS

i seriously hope either you, or your friend is joking.....

if your friend is not joking, he's amazingly dumb.

a dodge ram 1500 V8 weights 1100 lbs more than a TL... so the power/weight ratio is nowhere near as good as the TL or G35..

1500 V8 Ram 0-60mph = 12 sec....

please, tell me it's a joke

Tell your friend to come to this board and read this thread.

Ram does have alot of torque but that is for pulling weight, not for speed! that is why a 5 liter only pumps out 230 hp, but that is concentrated for heavy loads. even if the bed is empty, just the transmission would not be able to keep up with the engine. the g35 sedan has more torque and power, and there is no way a 1998 dodge ram can do 0 - 60 un under 6.3 seconds (timing of the g35 auto). The TL would be a bit more of a challange, but I still think the TL can out-run a dodge ram. now when he says beat, does he mean 0 - 60? take your friend to the highway and show him what a TL can do. dodge ram will not be able to go past 115 mph.

I'm quite sure your friend's ram is nothing to worry about. My neighbor's, on the other hand, would outrun any TL out there as if they were standing still. Of course, it's pushing 500+ HP at the rear wheels, compliments of Vortech and a large number of other enhancements.

But in general, most all trucks are sloooooow.

Goosh..people are buying pickups these days because with all the incentives the makers are giving out. They don't see the real cost of owning a big pickup untill they go to the gas pump.

Go whoop his ass already and tell us how bad he cried after he lost.. LOL, the only fast trucks out there are the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Dodge SRT-10 RAM with the viper engine and single cab. It's still defing the purpose of a pickup truck and is just for rednecks.

The non-hemi is pushing 17-18 seconds in the 1/4. Even the hemi runs a 1/4 mile time of just over 15 seconds @ 88 mph.

Go smoke his a$$!

1500 ram is heavier, so i assume they are about the same time

even they are faster, there's no way it can spank our TL

Actually, the 0-to-60 on the Ram 1500 Hemi is about 7.5 seconds, which makes it pretty fast. I've raced one in my TL-S and I passed him well at about 55 mph from a dead stop. Plus, those new Grand Cherokees with the hemi have a 0-to-60 of about 7.0, so I'd be careful with those if I was in a TL-P.

As for your situation, I have a '95 Ram 1500 with a 5.2 V8 Magnum and a K&N filter, and I could honestly say that it is one of the closest automobiles I've ever driven. The thing has absolutely no pickup at all. That being said, unless your friend made Mopar or Vortech or some company put a ton of work into his Ram, you have nothing to worry about. Race him, blow his doors off, then ask him if he still wants to race your cousin's G35...

He said it's a Ram 1500. Only Ram 2500 and 3500 have the Cummins diesel as an option.

Hemi Durango's can run 0-60 in 7.2s and 15.4s in the 1/4 mile.

EDIT: Also the quickest Hemi Ram 1500 I've seen was in MotorTrend, it did 0-60 in 6.8s and 15.1s in the 1/4 mile.
