Stopped at Infiniti to look at an M
I just can't help myself . . . . I'm addicted to cars! I made a sidetrip yesterday coming back from court to the local Infiniti dealer to look at an M35x. I keep telling myself not to buy a new car but I WANT one baaaaaaad!

The new M's are nice, I've seen a small handful come through my doors and I like them, but at the point I'm at in life I can't justify a car that size. But if its what your looking for a M45 sport is a fine vehicle in its a class. Not to mention it will be cheaper and more reliable to maintain - not like that's a major factor when buying a car in that price range, but the frugal side of me likes a car that's less likely to burn down a rail car full of cars.

I like what the 45 is capable of, though in Buffalo NY, I need something more surefooted so it's the 35x for me (he said this week fully capable of changing his mind next week)

Honestly, I would wait for the 07 G35X.
I personally think it looks better. The M looks like an Altima on steroids, but not in a bad way.
And should be slightly cheaper.

G is too small for me. But this morning as I was again leaving court, I see a brand new black A8 driving past and I'm like, screw the M, it's the A8!!! I flip-flop daily between the two.

The M probably offers more value...if you're into that sort of thing

What makes it so hard is that a one year old M35x loaded can be had for about the same price as a two year old A8 loaded w/ maybe 10K more on the odo.

I'd get the M just so you don't have to worry too much about reliability. If that's not an issue, go A8. That car is just sexy.
But they're both pretty hot. Have you thought about a low mileage pre-owned M? Maybe one that is a year old? You can probably get a good deal that way and still have a fairly new car...

I drove the A8 at the Audi Streets of Tomorrow event in Philly and the wife totally fell in love with it. It is definitely a complete package sedan (Luxury, Performance, Handling, Ride, Technology, Quattro). As nice a premium sedan as the Infiniti M is (and it is NICE!), the A8 is on a different level. ....and I would definitely get that over the 7-series.
But I would definitely wait for the Lexus LS before crowning the king in this segment.

The main point in buying one over the other in my locale would be the Audi dealer is supposedly a complete asshole (coming from his first cousin who tried buying an A6 from him, instead going to Erie PA to get it) while the Infiniti dealer is a guy I know from the ski club. Selling a car is easy, maintaining it w/ a shop you can stand is a whole other story. That and the fact Mr. Infiniti said he'd shop me a real good price on a 2006 since the 07's are due very shortly

The M's are nice I was looking at that car for the longest. When I get another sedan, it will more than likely be the M45.

If I had the money to spend on a large luxury vehicle, it'd be the A8. I'd pass up the 7 and Merc's.

Get the M45 Sport! I got mine in late April and I've been nothing but pleased with it. The electronics, the performance, the handling, the overall ride quality - it's an all-around great car. It's been the best 2,300 miles I've ever spent in a car, and for the money it is a pure bargain.
And whoever is talking about a fully-loaded M45 Sport versus a fully-loaded A8L, we're talking a steep $500 difference PER MONTH in lease rates. They aren't even in the same class.
If you have any questions Chief, I'd be glad to answer them about the car.

Thanks Matt but never will I lease a car, that's just a huge financial mistake in my book (and my advisor's). It'd be an outright purchase of a used 06 M or 04 A8. Part of me sez buy new but that's a bad financial decision as well. I'm trying to retire in 8 1/2 years. I can't believe you only have 2300 on it since April!

Just thought of a question Matt: How does the automatic throttle blip work when you put the tranny in manual mode and downshift? Does it rev-match well?

personally i don't like the design of the Infintit M.
I'd take a E-class over it any day. with the new E-class diesel coming out in 2008 or something like that it's suppose to be the cleanest diesel on the road. plus like 40 mpg. the power not bad either 0-60 in mid 6 second range. now grant it won't be like a CTS-V but at 40 mpg you can give the finger to the gas station owners.

I am with Beltfed on this one tho, the car should be less expensive.
I consider leasing as:
A loan with a balloon payment at the end of the lease term, which you can refinance and/or payoff immediately.
A loan without worrying about trade-in value (as the residual is already preset).
A shot term loan, with the benefit of "reselling" your car to the lienholder at a preset value (although you are technically disposing the car off).
For business purposes, a lease is a tax shield as it is recorded as an expense.

For the regular joe, a 3 series is better than the M (cause they do not know what the hell is an Infiniti M).
