STi or Evo X

Just wanted an Azine consensus on which is the better AWD pocket rocket to buy.

I used to be in the STi camp myself: owned the previous gen STi before I had to sell it to pay for reconstructive surgery for my achilles tendon. (Lesson learned: have medical insurance.)

That was 3 years ago, and I kinda want to go back to AWD now that I've finished Law School. Planning to trade in the 02 TL-S this November/December if I pass the July CA bar.

Anyone take either of these for a test drive yet?

Evo is a much better performer on track and looks better to boot. I'd probably try to score a used Evo IX though personally......

I love the new STi, I saw a red one in person a few days back and couldn't stop staring. STi all the way.

I owned the previous STI- an 04 and loved it. The new one really let me down on the looks and performance side. My vote goes to the EVO.

Coming from an Evo owner, this is a toss up.. If i were you i would test drive both and chose the one that suits you better. Thats probably the best thing you could do.

If talking about last gen I would have said the STI, but between the current models I would take the EVO. I am a subaru owner myself, but am just not a huge fan of the redesigned STI, looks like a mazdaspeed 3 to me. Either way you can't go wrong as far as performance with either in my opinion.

On the other hand, I have a real issue with paying over 35k for either. Once you start getting close to 40k some other cars come into consideration.

If you want a manual transmission

Sti = 6-speed
Evo GSR = 5-speed
Evo MR = automated manual (though I think it's suppose to be a good one)

I would get an EVO IX over EVO X or a new STI, new style isnt working for me. EVO is kind of ok but nothing special and its kind of a big car. STI is a hatchback and I hate 4 door hactchbacks. but in the end its up to you

New ones. I mean I would consider a used Evo IX, but generally used Evo IX's here in So Cal seem to be leased vehicles. And I'm afraid of getting a car where the previous leasee drove the shit out of it.

Yeah. I know alot about STi since my 06 had the basics (Cobb stage 2, Helix downpipe, Greedy catback, Coilovers, etc) and so naturally I was leaning towards the 08. But $37k starting... is pretty damn high.

Lol so thats why I looked at the Evo which starts at $33k for the GSR (5 speed) and I don't think the MR (SST tranny) will be available until next year.

Guess I'll have to test drive both. Thanks all.

Tough call. STi by a very small margin. I'm among the few ones to love the looks although I hated them at first.

Agreed the STi is pretty pricey. If you have that much to spend step up to a BMW

I'd take a 335i

I just can't stand the looks of the new STi, WRX, or Impreza so I'd take the Evo X. Even without the extra cog I don't like "automated manuals" more than the good old 3-pedal stickshift. Though the 6-speeds would really help.... last gen would have to be Evo IX over the pignose STi, and then it would be fisheye STi over the Evo VIII.

The EVO and STi war has been close for so long, I think at this time it'd all boil down to personal preference .. I really can't tell you which one to get, but if I were buying, I like how the new STi looks.
