Steering racks

Are there really any differences between a re manufactured steering rack & a new one?

I need to replace mine, but the remans are a lot cheaper & easier to find then a new one.
I see A1 Cardone recommended by some.

Never had to replace one before so I'm clueless.

Thanks

I've bought them(reman) before and they seemed to have worked well. They should have new seals and the necessary parts to meet oem specs. They normally have a lifetime warranty also.

If the warranty is good, I would think a re-man unit would work well. I've never installed a remanufactured steering rack, but plenty of re-man water pumps, electrical components, and industrial engine parts without any issues.

I would say most steering racks after a car has been out for a little while are rebuilt units. Even most car companies stop producing or produce very few big parts like that and start rebuilding them. A good rebuilt unit is essentially new anyways, generally they just reuse the items that can't really wear at all.

Cool thanks. I'll be going with the re-man then.

As long as its a reputable company there should be no reason not to buy one. They get inspected and replace the seals and any other worn parts.

The only thing I would not buy re-manufactured are driveshafts with CV joints. It's literally impossible to tell how good the CV joints are until you put install them and drive. Other remanufactured stuff I've had no problems with.
