Spy Photos: 2004 BMW X3
From the car connection:
While BMW was using 3-Series wagons as test mules, our artist was hard at work putting together this rendering based on bits and pieces of information weve recently gathered on the upcoming X3 ute.
The Honda CRV-sized Bimmer is still at early stages with the design proposals still being submitted by BMWs Design Works center in California and the Munich HQ styling studio. But the illustration above shows the direction we believe BMW is taking.
The X5 is already sold out for the rest of the year. At its peak, BMW will produce nearly 80,000 units for worldwide markets from its Spartanburg factory in South Carolina. The manufacturing target for the X3 will be much higher, but according to our source, Predicting exact figures is difficult for the moment." But sources close to BMW estimate a worldwide production of over 100,000 units for the upcoming X3. Although production plans have not yet been announced, it is likely that a large percentage may be built in Spartanburg.
According to BMW, the X3 will offer a choice of four and six‑cylinder gasoline and diesel engines (for some markets). All-wheel drive, featuring the sophisticated electronic systems ASC+T and DSC-3 to optimize its off‑road ability, will be standard, together with independent suspension for refined driving dynamics.

that is pimp.
But why is it that almost everything that BMW puts out is a hit? When we where looking at the 2k1 540(auto), I didn't like the leather that much, small back seat, tiny trunk, and the interior just sucks. same w/ the 3series, the center part w/ the radio isn't that good looking, i think the accords and maxima's have a better center consol.

I still don't get it. A suv, no, "SAV" that handles like a car. It doesn't hold much cargo. It doesn't tow much. It doesn't do well off road.
Why not buy a wagon??

Speaking of wagon, I'd rather drive an Audi RS4 if they could only sell it in the US Yeah, come to papa!

Maybe because they still love the minivan concept, and these pseudo-SUV (pardon me while I puke) like the MDX and this new X3 are the closest thing to a minivan (and in fact they are no more than that).
