Spray Paint?

Cliffs:
-I backed into a white concrete building today with the Ford. Its black.
-Got a decent sized dent near the gas tank
-Car didn't explode...yet
-Now there are deep white scratches around and in the dent, plus on some of the bumper.
-Thinking about buying a can of black spray paint from the auto shop and seeing if they have the black ford color.
-Thinking about spraying the white scratches.
-Bad thinking?

I'm guessing you want to cover up the embarrassing white scuffs on your black bumper. Its going to need paint and some work anyway, so it wouldn't really hurt. It will still be noticeable up close though, rattle cans are never a quick-fix solution.

Your wife probably won't notice if that's what you're wondering.

Don't know about england auto stores but you may or may not find your color. You may need to go to the dealer, or a body shop.
Spray paint is a temporary fix, as in it probably won't look as good as you think it will and it will probably flake off in some time.

Depends on your goal. If you're covering the scratches so they appear black instead of white, then your thinking sounds spot on.

If you're covering them to try and repair it properly so they aren't noticeable, or to maintain value of the car, then yes, that sounds like bad thinking.

The colour might not match exactly (due to sun fade and age), no. The paint might not stick if you haven't prepped the area properly or used a quality paint. It will still be visible or look different anyway just because you mentioned also having a dent there. Also consider overspray, blending, sanding, not clearcoating, etc. are probable issues too.

And sounds like you're really afraid of your wife.

Well, I found a used tampon in the trash...So yes...Im terrified...

But really, if I look from a distance, I see a lot of white on a black car. I want to look from a distance and not see the white. Sure, if I get close I can see its been painted, but the car is far from being sold or traded.

First, use car polish to polish the areas of the car that made contact with the building to see how much of the white is transfer (which comes off) and how much is your car's primer/body material that has to be covered. If you're lucky, most of the white will be transfer.

You might find that a paint pen or touch-up paint will hide the scratches, so you can avoid spraying and getting overspray on your windows, trunk and yourself.
Oh, and don't smoke while you're polishing or painting!

G/L!

I bet you a lot of that will come off with a good polish.... hard to say from the pics, but it doesn't look like it's all gone right through to the metal. Polish the area first and see what's left.

looks like a lot of that is material transfer from what ever you rubbed up against.

That's what car polish is sometimes called.

From your photo, Street Spirit and I might be on the right track about most of the white being paint transfer-- you may have two very shiny black dents by the time you're done polishing.

FWIW, paintless dent removal might minimize, if not fully repair, the dent in the rear quarter panel/fender, too.

A lot was, I got rid of a lot of the white, but its down to bare metal now. I tried to get a car wash after but they wouldn't do it saying that my bumper may fall off...

Anyway, I am getting an estimate for a profession cheap fix. Found out today that my neighbor owns the local repair shop.

I don't think they have paintless dent removal here.
