Spotted: Smart Car

Saw a Smart car northbound on I-5 just south of Portland yesterday. I wonder if they were testing it? Are these things even legal? The thing looked more ridiculous in person. With every other vehicle here being a lifted Suburban, I dont see how they're compatible.

DaimlerChysler is going to bring it to the states. Ever since the intro of the Smart in euro market its be operating at a loss since 98 so they are gonna expand the line to the states and will be sold at Merc dealerships.....hoping to make a profit

Yup, all over the place here... You kind of get used to them after awhile, but they are still funny to look at whenever I see one.

There's a guy in my town that has one-purple too. He looks to be about 80 and whips around it in.

I saw one in Milwaukee about a month ago - it had decals on the side from a local Mercedes dealer.

I thought the same thing, that they are not federalized, and are not legal to use in the US Tiny little thing, especially around all the behemouth SUV's and pick-ups people in WI use as their daily drivers.

My co-worker just came to me talking about this stupid car. He has a Scion XA and he says he is keeping the Scion as a family car and gonna buy the smart car as a commuter since his XA has a cold air intake...

What's the top speed of the smart car in MPH? Great city car and on gas mileage, but i know i would die in a car accident if i drove those on the highway.

If a huge SUV is following behind you and you're alongside an 18 wheeler you got to get out of that death trap really quick.

You're like a bug compared to the 18 wheelers out there.

As I said in the automotive new thread linked above, it's going to be hard to convince americans to buy a smart, when the honda fit, toyota yari, and scions are priced in the same category. Sure it gets better gas mileage, and it's cute, but I don't know how well they would sell for in the US...

I think it would make for a great toy to play with...
