Spirited Drive
Got some friends together and tore up some country roads this morning. It was hazy and chilly, but we still managed to have a ton of fun.
Great variety of cars...Miatas, Acuras, a Hennessey Viper and even a Vantage!

Congrats, J. Looks like you got everyone out there. Would have come if I wasn't working today.

How did you manage to keep the spirited drive entertaining for everyone with the large gaps in performance between the top and bottom end of the range?
I've only done 2 bear mountain runs (not many straights, mostly difficult, sharp turns), with mostly Audi/BMW enthusiasts and the last one I attended had a lot of other makes involved tiburons, nissans etc and the bottom end/less aggressive drivers couldn't keep up and eventually fell off until we'd stop. How did you prevent this?

If I was going 80-100mph in the front of the line, everyone behind me would have to keep up. Account for everyones braking and ability to keep up, the line will lose its tightness and there will be gaps formed. It sounds silly but the back of the line would see speeds of 100-120 just to keep up.
Everyone in this group knew thier cars pretty well so it wasn't a huge issue. On the straights, the Mustangs and Viper would catch up, on the turns the Miatas and Porsches would catch up. Either way, I printed maps and said..."if you don't like the pace either go ahead or fall behind.

Looks extremely fun! Nice!
I go to the local canyon frequently but not with other people. Never done that before.

Interesting, our leader is in a modified e46 and sets one hell of a pace, really have to work to keep up. In one part of the last run we took to the highway (2-3) lanes and lets say that theoretically having a 130 speed governator sucks when most the other cars are limited to 155 and get there quickly!
Go out there with the intention of driving under your own limits. When you "try" and keep up, you will amost always get in above your head.

Totally! On the runs I'm not competitive to the point where I want to beat or would pass another member of the run (not to say others don't SMH), but there have been times where I run out of talent and have to step back a bit because a lot of the turns are blind turns or incline followed by steep decline and turn. Your crowd seemed mature though, biggest problem in these sort of get togethers is immaturity. Try to get a hold of the videos the other members took; There's something about spinning rims that make me

The pace was fine. I had extra ballast in the car (had to have been there) and it wasn't pushing the capability of the car or driver with a spirited pace.
Jordan led a great ride and I would recommend jumping on his drives.
And the family haulster kept up fine, the pace was quick but not crazy.

I think his fastest pass on the bridge was closer to 200mph than 100mph.
Basically, that bridge is about 2-3 miles long, perfectly straight and smooth on a backroad over the Red River. Theres never any traffic there and no houses or anything else around.
Here is a cell phone video of the Leguna Seca Mustang.

Damn that is some speed. I have never been above 135 and that was back in high school. Don't think I have exceed 120 since.
Sounds like a lotta fun. Wish we had places like that around here with out having to travel really far.
