Same guy had a 93 K75S that I'd tried to buy for a while, but timing & funding never aligned. He's since sold it & it was in running order. The R needs a full teardown.
Have never ridden or worked on any BMW bikes, but have ridden with several riders with who own or owned them. One guy has had ~4 R bikes included the current gen (R with oil cooled motors) and a few older R's (70's and 80's). Most are super reliable and mostly easy to work on. One former colleague had two K's (75 and 100), once BMW/Bosch figured out the Montronic fuel/spark management they were pretty decent bikes. Oh, still amused that BMW engineers made the K series motor pistons face left just so oil will get into the combustion chamber so they produce blue smoke on startup when using the sidestand

Love to ride a S1000RR

I've sat on a S1RR at the local dealer, not bad for a supersport. Not sure I trust my right hand to get one on the road.
Really like the old flying brick K bikes, bummer the 93 didn't work out years ago.
Just need to get my shop/shed area figured out & figure out how to get the R65 from FL to TX, and for the TX heat to abate enough to be able to work on it.

In Rotus news:

Being a 3 wheeler with no rear suspension, it was quite tricky to get it from the garage to the trailer & even more work to get it up onto the trailer.
Had to take the couple hundred pounds of boxes out to get it light enough to lift the rear & roll it. Luckily (unlucky for him) my neighbor got home right when the transport showed up & he gave us a much needed hand. Definitely owe him a beer or 3.

Majority of the toy purchase was funded with the profit from selling the Rotus.

Been fighting computer issues all morning & posting mostly from my phone until now.

Anyway, new toy is a 1975 MG Midget
Needs a bit of work, but runs decently
Picking it up this weekend. Tires on it are 10-12 years old & didn't want to chance one coming apart on the 65 mile drive home. Also has some minor fluid leaks, and without a trans dipstick, didn't want to risk a failure there either.
It'll be going up to my dad's for a while, so we can get it road-safe, then it'll come home. Has an indicated 68k on it, but only a 5-digit odometer, so could be 168k
Needs some brake work, took some effort on the brakes to get good braking effort.
Cold start is a bit rouge, choke needs adjustment, but runs pretty well once it warms up. Electrical has had some refreshing, so everything was working on our test drive except the reverse lights.

Also needs a paint job, seller disclosed that it was a cheap Maaco job that was done before he bought it.

Luckily, parts are still widely available for these, despite it being nearly 50 years old, and they're pretty cheap too.

Some photos from the listing & a couple I took while we were there

I've seen a few with SBC & a couple with 4.3 V6
This will keep the Brit 1500cc for now. Already de-catted, not sure if the air/smog pump has been removed. Peppy for only having 65-70hp stock. Actually weighs less than the Rotus was projected to weight, by 2-300lbs.

Congrats! I had a neighbor growing up who had 3 of these plus a few more he hid at a storage facility so he wouldn't piss his dad off 😂

They're cool little cars. They really don't need a ton of power for backroad fun.

Fine. At least consider a 2.3L Ecoboost swap.

She'll be stock for a while, maybe a swap for something EFI down the road.

Picking her up tomorrow morning
Then she's off to my dad's for a while, so we can get it road-safe in an enclosed building.

Would be a long drive at 30mph.
Not worth losing a tire or some major mechanical issue. Rather baby it home & take some time going through it before putting miles on it.

Sweet!!!!

My cousin had a early 70's MGB GT, typical Lucas electric nightmare but my cousin is a EE like me and before long kept quite an assortment of Lucas relays and switches in the glovebox.
Consider a proper all aluminum Rover/Buick V8 swap

Luckily, the prior owner resolved most of the electrical gremlins Sir Lucas had left behind. Only thin not working at the moment is the reverse lights. Didn't try the radio nor the heater blower when we looked at it last weekend. Will try to check those before trailering it up tomorrow morning.

A guy on the Lotus forum has a Berkley 492, even smaller. He's put a Honda VFR 750 engine in it, and sits at about 1000lbs wet without driver.

Back in high school, the varsity football team lifted the coaches midget onto the roof of a lower overhang. Was pretty funny to see it sitting there the next morning as we all walked in.

More concerned with tire temps on the 65 mile drive home.
That, and it looks like it has a small trans leak, not having a dipstick, don't want a trans failure either.

Yeah, that quarter is the worst, apart from the cheap paint job.
Semi-accessible via the trunk, so we'll see how easily it can be repaired.
Rubber bumpers will be gone early on as well. Looks so much more svelte without them

Is there a euro bumper option that's just a thin piece of chrome instead?
The journey of cleaning it up is part of the fun! Then obviously the turbo k series on low boost making 850 to the wheels will really seal the deal.
BEND THAT FRAME!

The cheap tiny tires are the only thing that will save the structure of this car after he installs a Ford 2.3L turbo boosted to the moon and dumps the clutch.
