Soda in the Shifter question

A while back I managed to spill some Mountain Dew in my shifter (automatic). When ever it's cold out the shifter is very sticky. I realize that my options are limited for cleaning it up. I could take it apart and clean the components but I really don't have enough faith in my ability to not mess something up. I could take it to the dealer but that's just insane.

So does anyone know of a good cleaner/solvent I could spray into the shifter that would clean up the soda without scrubbing? I'm worried that anything I might try would damage whatever electronics lie down there as well.

Thanks in advance for any help you might provide.

We can't move between the Car Forums, so unfortunately we have to just lock this. Feel free to re-post this over in 2nd Gen.

edit - better yet, I'll move to Car Talk so it can stay open...
