The GTS are the way to go long term if you can stand the power loss in my opinion. Those V8s are supposed to be bullet proof.
The way I see it is .. with all terrain tires, this thing isn't breaking any speed records - I have yet to do any 0-60 testing but I'd imagine it's lost a few ponies since new.
I do but I want to stay married more so here we are.
Now if they made a Porsche truck...
they do!
and you can tell it’s a Porsche for 2 reasons
1) the engine is at the wrong end
2) they cost way the fk more then you think
as far as the seats, I agree. I wish more cars had soft cushion seats, but everything now is tight leather. I feel like many new car seats could double as a ping pong table.
Have fun at Joshua Tree...the only earthquake I've ever experienced was in some back alley bowling alley / taco joint at Joshua tree...
memorable day, that's for sure. Even stayed at the little Motel where U2 wrote or recorded the album.
I do like the GX [pretty much all gens of it], but would probably just go T4R or LC instead.
The new GX in an off-road getup is mighty good looking, especially in green.

Right, I did a poor job conveying my message. I was trying to give the LC double thumbs down because of the engine and the bulky body. And the Lexus a single thumbs down because of the bulky body. While praising the cayenne’s packaging and engine.
$8k all in ... pink slip, cheap insurance & registration, AND I can park it in the tightest spots at the front row of the grocery store - I'm running this POS into the ground.

The 955/957 Cayenne isn't really comparable to anything new Lexus carries however, overall - I much much prefer 2000s cars dimensions - new cars have gotten huge.
Saw your champagne twin on my commute this morning. Showroom clean [from the outside] example.
Definitely cool to see these things still on the road .. I just feel sorry for their bank accounts
Most 955 Turbos are beat from years and years of neglect.
I'm roughly $5k into my car after 3 years and it's been mostly DIY - without the crafty / cost saving maneuverability, I would roughly be at $10-12k easily, maybe more.
The Cayenne shitbox made it - 300 miles of towing, another 100 in exploration around the state park. Elevation at our campsite was around 3500ft and other parts of the park came in at around 4300ft.
I have to hand it to this POS - On the way up, there were moments where ambient temperature sat around 90 degrees while tackling some pretty large grades. As you head into the high desert, there where the elevation gain was 900ft in 3-ish? miles.
It maintained towing a 4500lb trailer at 60mph pretty easily but at the expense of horrific gas mileage and higher than normal temps - I guess the sustained load of 4000rpm @ 8psi will do that .
Only issue was my crankcase vent cap popped 1 of the 3 tabs which resulted in a small oil leak - popped the cap on the oil leak disappeared and is holding up. Seems fine .
I'm continually jealous of not only your amazing rides but also the place you live. Would be so much awesome to not have your face hurt when going outside in the winter.
It's at least 2-3 hours to get out of the concrete jungle of Houston & into some semi-decent [but still very flat] camping areas.
Out around Austin it gets hilly, and is quite nice.

CA is far from ideal for how much it costs to live here but the amenities are hard to beat - mountains, desert, coastline all within a 3 hour drive of each other.
Not 'terrible'
I was getting similar with my 2.7TT F150 pulling a V-Nose tandem axle cargo trailer & about that with the 2.3T Explorer pulling a utility trailer with a Kawasaki Mule on it
Thanks for sharing those pics! As Sam said, very jealous of all the landscape you have access too. As you point out, it’s at a cost.
I do miss mountains living in FL, especially after having grown up in Canada. I also wish there were better driving roads in my area. Your mpg isn’t too bad. I feel like that’s roughly what I used to get with my 5.2L v8 Jeep towing my cousins race car. I was pulling more weight, but aerodynamics were in my favor. A lot better than a friend of ours with a V10 excursion pulling an enclosed trailer who was getting 2-3 mpg, but he was also a leadfoot.
Also, I’m not surprised your crankcase vent cap popped with all the mean names you’re calling the Cayenne!

Totally. I'm definitely too poor to live in CA and adding to the fact that we'd have no family or help with the kid there and we're pretty cemented here for the long haul.
