I keep explaining that to my fiance...
she's like but we can cash in and get xxx amount of dollars to put into the next house.
I'm like, yes sweetheart but by the same token...that next house will also be artificially
inflated so you're robbing peter to pay paul and we will now owe DOUBLE what we
owe now

Yes. And right now the market is artificially high because of supply/demand imbalance, it will come back to earth soon and a lot of people will be left upside down yet again.
ha, fool me once...
either way.
I don't have a full garage for a car in the house we live in.
You would think I would be most inclined to want another place.
but I don't. I make do with what I have and enjoy our low mortgage
for this area.

I'm just glad we got in when we did ... CA housing prices were inflated in 2015 but nothing compared to what it is now .
We got lucky when we sold/bought in 2017. Our selling neighborhood was a nice increase over when we bought & the neighborhood we bought into didn't get inflated nearly as much, despite being 2 miles door-to-door.

We were looking for a new house earlier this year to get more space for baby before deciding to just table it until the market comes back down to earth. The market is absolutely insane right now. We put in an offer on a house for $40k over asking and still didn't get it. One house we put an offer on was asking $580k, sold for $650k with no inspection. Many houses are going for buyer guaranteed above appraised value and waived inspection which is roflwaffles to me. My parents signed on to build a new house last summer (they lucked out) and sold their house a few weeks ago. On the market Friday, sold Saturday for $25k above appraised value and no inspection lol.
The private party price for my Golf is more than I paid for it 3 years ago. I'm going to list it on FBook and see what I can get before the new car arrives. If it doesn't sell, I'll trade it.
yet people continue to pay these bubble prices like there will be no tomorrow. If one doesn't NEED a car right now, stop buying cars.
I bought 1 out from a wholesaler at wholesale price.
Other than that situation, I totally agree.
I probably should sell off a couple of mine right now, actually.
I ordered my car with about 12% off with incentives included .... They are trying VERY VERY hard for me to switch cars since the beginning of May... u know one of those cars that dont sell (X4, X6, M850i)
So they can sell MY CAR at close to MSRP when it arrives..
I told them to give me X6M50i or a M850i for the same payment, i will take it... They laughed together with me...
The Suburban is the one I really can't sell.
I need to move the S4 or S5. Problem is, every time I drive either, I love it.
S2000 is off the table too...and the newest beater is my fun project that won't bring much cash.
The S4 is a car I will do everything in my power to never sell ...
It's a car I've had so many lows, so many highs, so much work and satisfaction it's always given me a grin on my face driving around town & laying the hammer down regardless of it's shortcomings.
This particular S2000 is a car that was given to me and I have no real attachment to ... plus, I've already owned one for 4 1/2 years prior.
Yeah but the S2k is still cooler because it has painted mirrors
I see the S2k continuing to increase in value. S4 prices may increase more, but I think they're artificially high due to used prices being up across the board. Plus, you already have a more modern Audi 4 door. If I were in your shoes I'd sell it for a nice profit while I could still get it.
But I'm probably not the right person to give advice on this stuff since I haven't been emotionally attached to any car in years - they're all assigned a dollar amount and my decisions are made based on that.

Even before the chip shortage, B5 market has been appreciating ... clean examples don't pop up often and cars of my condition are going for 14+k right now pretty easily - It really is a niche market.
I've done a lot of thinking on what the 'perfect' car is for me ... and I've come to the conclusion that I cannot look at them 100% objectively. Otherwise, I'd be sitting there nitpicking every little thing and never be truly satisfied with my purchase.
Sounds kind of cliché but - In the S4s case, something that has some shortcomings / character / rarity / something I have built myself kind of tops anything out there that's just pre-baked & ready to go .. I'll never build that kind of connection to a car ever again.
Maybe I'm just stuck in a perpetual merry-go-round of chasing nostalgia.
I'd have a twin here. There's a @rockstar143 spec S4 nearby that I see pretty often.
No, all extra $$ is going into the Rotus for the foreseeable future.
No attachment to an S2K you got from Mom?
The guy I bought the monoblocks from told me that your S4 should be well North of 15K.
Not that he had any particular qualifications or anything.
