That was an option first... I was thinking of trading my friend for his ls1 fd afterwards... out the window now! I didn't want to ruin another S14 too though.

I wish it were that easy, but when you've come so close to fully building a KA motor it isn't worth it to dump another 6k+. And if you get ref'ed here, you'd be screwed bigtime. I don't want to have to keep swapping engines if stuff goes bad. I'm not sure how readily available RB parts are over here too. I've also got a custom lightened Sunny flywheel and 280zx turbo clutch rated for 500lbs tq. I'd hate to have to get rid of my current setup.

In a way I guess it's good everything happened at once. It's super frustrating though, but in the end I'll have a fresh motor good for 600+ hp reliably. Keeping it on the other hand... I don't know.

Sorry to hear about your 997 starting issue. What's been going on? I occasionally drive my uncle's 997 c4s to keep it running.. no issues so far.

Agreed.

Something with the starter motor having a loose ground strap. Porsche has replaced it once but it still happens from time to time. Not the worst thing ever but annoying lol

Looks like I MAY have finally caught a break.

So my RL was feeling lonely....-as2kw3g.jpg
Friend found two KA blocks in his shop while moving and they look like they are in good condition.... not getting my hopes up yet, but if so he's giving me a block for super cheap.

Quite a bit has happened since I last updated... I also ended up selling the 04 RL we had from new.

The blocks my friend had were sent out to be inspected by the machine shop and they were both in perfect condition. Balanced the crankshaft, bored and line honed the better looking block for the oversized pistons. Ran into a issue with ARP backorder, because of super low demand of head bolts and stuff for the KA24DE motor.. took about a month to get one delivered. Then the engine was finally put together and put back into the car. While putting in the transmission, we found a crack in the transmission... thankfully it wasn't leaking.... so we just silicone'd it. My throwout bearing was close to take a dump, along with the rear tranny seal so I had to purchase those on a whim to slap in.

So my RL was feeling lonely....-ynoi8ne.jpg

After putting in the tranny and motor and checking the electricals, it was time to start the motor. It fired up right away without any hiccups. This was pretty damn exciting, the car sounded completely different than before. Finally a fresh motor running smooth on all 4 cylinders!! Its now been 2 months since the rebuild and I have finally put 460 miles on it. My friend told me to break in the car on the freeway because my current JWT ecu runs too rich, and isn't great in stop and go. It's safe to go to 5K RPM, and dang it kicks like a mule when the turbo spools! There's a very tiny leak somewhere, but my oil level is still full, so I'll be checking that out when break in is finished.... which is at 500 miles. Then it's time to start preparing for a AEM series 2 and a whole bunch of other goodies...

Sitting pretty at home.

Fresh build!

I wonder how reliable is the silicone sealed crack on the tranny?

Looks good! I would also be a little skeptical about the silicone, but if it's working, more power to you.

My mom is frightened of the car. She won't even step foot in it. Seeing it shoot fireballs and smelling that stanky external wastegate just made her instantly go NO lol. It also gives my dad verbal diarrhea when I hit boost too After that hour long ride with me he never asked to sit in it again.

So that's how you get people to stop asking for rides? I've been doing it wrong for years.

Surely you've driven around aggressively with people in the car that hold onto the "Oh Shit!" handle while hitting the imaginary brake...right?

Only in the 240 and RL do I drive myself haha!

Actually... more friends ask me for rides now in the 240 since many of them haven't experienced boost before... and others just like the noise. People used to crowd in my RL when we needed to carpool. Now, not so much. Took out my back seats too!

That's pretty fuckin' funny! And good for you for removing the back seat! My first and second cars (1983 Accord and 1992 Accord EX, respectively...poor cars...) were sedans, and people in the back seat are just trouble!! They spill shit or mess up something and never tell you!

Yea I HATED that!! Some mofos would randomly eat in my car when I tell them not to sometimes. I had soda spilled on my AC vent and freakin carpet. No one fessed up, damn turds!!!

I got stopped by cops a few times, and when I told them the story of why I removed my backseats they just laughed haha. Voila no ticket!

Oh, and I absolutely HATE it when people don't let the seatbelts retract. The sound of door closing on the metal part of the seatbelt *shiver*

The FRS doesn't have an oh shit handle

Or a back seat for that matter, that's something I forgot to mention in my thread...I pulled that out back in May.

I drive like an asshole when I'm by myself, but when people are in the car, especially someone like my mom, I don't push it hard. Not sure why, maybe I need to

to all of the above.

I was the only one in my group of friends that had a car in highschool, so naturally I was the chauffeur. I told my friends to respect the car as if it were their own. So one day we went out for lunch, and my friend spilled purple drank on the back seat. I stopped the car, handed him napkins to clean it up, then made him walk back to school

walk back to school!? LOL!!!

No one wanted to go to lunch when I drove in junior year.... on lunch break I was driving a buddies sienna, jam packed with a whole bunch of friends and proceeded to try and do donuts in the parking lot. Needless to say, the deans held us for lunch and bitched us out. Oh yea, we didn't end up eating lunch that day.

No "Oh Shit!" handle, Morgi?! What did people grab onto?

The "backseat drama" is what made me get the little gorgeous I have now... It's a non-functional backseat!

Driving like an asshole = Fine-tuned, offensive AND defensive driving... It's because of all the other people on the road that somehow got a license.
