So Much Power It's Doing Unintentional Burn Outs

posted this in the TL forum but it got locked >.>

got kind of a problem. friend of mine drives a 2000 maxima and he's posted in their forums but nissan guys are lame and no one has helped him.
heres what he said
"when i come to a complete stop with my car, sometimes the gas pedal will get stuck (not really stuck, but you'll have to press on it kinda hard so it'll go) and i was wondering what was wrong with it. i heard from a friend that you'd have to buy some sort of fluid and put it in but the only fluids i can think of are the transmission and steering fluids... which doesn't make sense at all."
when hes at a stop, then tries to accelerated the pedal feels stuck

any help?

he should be looking at the whole throttle linkage. Seems something is bound up. look at the cable it might be beginning to seize, or the pedal itself might be rusted on the hinge or something of the like.

He may have carbon build up on the Throttle body plate & it's sticking. A simple cleaning with some carb cleaner should fix it. Fairly common automotive problem.

It probably got locked because of this:

wtf does that have to do with anything.

I was going to say get LSD and better tires.

If its not a physical problem like the throttle cable/linkage, its possible a fuel injector is sticking open(highly unlikely) or more then likely it is a problem with the IAC, sometimes when they go bad they make the care behave very unusual. However, it could be the main ECU acting funny, with out looking at it all we can do is speculate.

You beat me to the punch. This is the first thing that popped into my head.

Most common reason(s) for a sticking throttle body valve? EGR valves and oil-wetted air filters.

I was gonna ask what the problem was.

Hey SouthernBoy, what's up?

IAC or the ECU wouldn't make the pedal physically get stuck, which is the symptom the OP originally stated.

No it wouldn't but a lot of people think the pedal is physically sticking when it really isn't. I was in the auto repair biz for over 10 years, I've literally "seen it all" its more common then not to have someone explain the problem inaccurately. And like I said, with out actually seeing the car all any of us are doing is guessing.

nah he said it's sticking, you'd have to apply pressure, then it'd pop forward and then you'd end up pushing too hard thus doing accidental burnouts

It's good down here. How's things up your way? Did you have a good Christmas?

Since I live for the warm weather (I am Southern after all), this winter thing is the pits for me, though so far, it has been a rather mild one. Also, I hate the idea of wishing my life away waiting for summer. Just one more reason to get further South, eh?

Are you snowed in?

I just scanned in one of the pictures of my Chevelle and I can't seem to find a way to attach it to a message box here.

When it comes to computers, I'm pretty much lost, but maybe it has to uploaded to a site like Photobucket first? Sorry SouthernBoy, but otherwise I don't have an idea.

Sad. I'm a software engineer, but then I don't develop anything on PC's. My work PC is only used to handle email and documentation. All of my work is on Unix and Linux machines.

Start a photobucet account, upload it there and then copy and paste the [IMG] code into the message box here on Azine. That easy.

I'd still love to see it. Can you send it to me if I supplied you with my e-mail? I have an account with Photobucket, and maybe I can post it for you. Again, I am a complete idiot when it comes to computers, but maybe that would work. Let me know and I'll privately send you my address.

Sure. I just tested it to my own email account and all went well. Send me a PM with your email address and I'll get it out to you.

Hi SouthernBoy

I tried again, and received a message that your mailbox is full and you need to clear some room. I'm leaving for awhile shortly, but will try to send you another message later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Strange. I just cleared out some things, so I'll wait for your next attempt. Thanks for the info and help.
