101? Too many people You should know I do it much better then that.
We cheated this time, we took the 5 to the 101 up so we could get as far north as possible. Rest of the trip down was a mix of the 1 and other empty 2 lane back roads
If you've seen my other trips http://wideopentraveler.blogspot.com/ t ....this one was no differt....but better roads and an even better car

Red convertible. Now that I think about it, I think I only went over 100 in this car once or twice this trip.....there really was no chance for very fast speeds on most of these roads. I have hit 140 in it before.........not close to my top speed driving though.
few quick notes, this car does everything better then a C5 except COMFORT. It really is amazing how comfortable the vettes are. I probably logged close to 6,000 miles in the vette with similar trips. Never once do you get out tired or sore (even after 12 hours straight). My body aches a little bit after this much time in the porsche. I'm too tall for the car, the clutch pedal is LONG and releases at the middle/top (my knee basically hits the wheel). My right leg has a bruise from where it's forced to rest while driving. And my back is sore and my shoulders tight. My shoulders are also much too wide for these particular seats.
However, don't get me wrong, the vette has nothing on this car in terms of build and drivers experience
5-7K RPM is the most intoxicating sound i've ever heard from behind me (and i've driven A LOT of cool cars).
This thing is also FAST, and the amount of grip it has is mind boggling. You keep thinking you are at the limit.........push it a little further in the next turn and you realize there is A LOT left. I don't even know what to say about the brakes. And the gearbox is butter (where as, the vette and my GTO require force)
One thing you can tell is that it has a lot less torque then the vette or my GTO; you definately feel it coming out of turns. Also, with the vette/gto you can basically leave the cars in third on a good road and never have to get out; can't do that in the porsche.
I'll keep writing more as it comes to mind..........
oh, somehow managed 19 mpg at an avg of 68 mph.....and I'm dead serious when I say I drove this car HARD

Well if you do the oregon trip, you can stay at either of the two places my parents have in crescent city. It's 8 miles south of the oregon border. One of those motels is on the beach, you literally step out of the motel and a few steps away is the beach.

Here's one of the places you can potentially stay at:

Here's the view from one of the rooms (not all have a beach view):

Most modern, expensive cars I've driven disappoint me, the exception is the 997S, I drove an 07 C2S hardtop for a weekend about a year ago, and what a sublime experience, the car is so near perfect its hard to explain in text, then when you factor in how wrong the layout is, its just mind blowing what an engineering marvel it is. One of my friends had a 355, and a C5 Z06 and I have driven a 360, though not for a weekend, and I would take the 997S any day of the week over the others. The 997S is absolutely fantastic, it makes me wonder if the Turbo a redundancy or if it, in fact, outshines its little brother. In terms of ownership it is a great experience, its reliable like a Toyota and offers performance on par with the pervious generation of Ferrari's, it maintains its value well overall it is the clear winner in the current world of everyday super cars.
I'm glad others feel the same, often when you meet your heros you are disappointed, that is not the case with the subtly, styled coupe from Stuttgart.

It's funny, i've been a porsche fan my whole life. I've driven a few quick porsches but never got the time to wring them out like this. This car lived up to everything I ever expected.
