So the 350Z only lays down 228-234 WHP!

So does it mean the 350X engin does not make 287HP?

more or less the engine is making 265-275 HP.

As a reference, the CLS6 with 260HP does 220-225 WHP.

The only big plus for the 350X is the 3000lb curb weigth and the high torque numbers (230 lbft at the wheels, 30 lbft more than CLS!)

don't forget its rear wheel drive as well which helps the car accelerate better.

Wouldn't a fair comparison be same dyno, same day, same gas?

Depends on the car and conditions. I saw dyno's at 245hp stock on my350z.com. As we all know, temp, and the car have a huge effect on the dyno results. Most dyno's I have seen are in the high 230 to low 240 range

And secondly, of course the Injen and AEM are going to use samples to make the stock car seem weak and then show a HUGE gain with their mods. If they had a stock Z running 240whp, their gains would not look so good. Check out my350z.com before coming to these conclusions

That sounds more like the real scenario. You're looking at someone's numbers who wants to sell something to you...take it with a grain of salt...

I'm sure they underestimate our cars as well...

Most stock CL-S6 have dyno'd closer to 215 - 220 WHP range.

It's not that the 350Z is producing less power......the difference is that it is a rear wheel drive layout so that the transmission losses are GREATER. FWD cars do not have a driveshaft to turn like RWD drive cars.

The CLS is smoother and fast but trust me dudes the 350Z making 287 at the crank - that car is VIOLENT!!!! Over 5K rpm the car accelerates so hard you cannot dare look down at the tach for fear of running into something the road is coming at you so fast....!!!

That never happened in my CLS....

I agree with the aspect of the RWD setup will normally zap more power. It does seem these cars, the 350Z and G35C, do suffer about 18% - 19% drivetrain loss.

However, it is the lower revs which the subject vehicle does so well in comparison to the CL-S6. After 5000 RPM the CL-S6 starts closing the gap on the torque deficit and by over 6k rev (just before the 350Z/G35C needs to shift) the deficit has been eliminated. This would suggest that at the higher revs the CL-S6 pulls harder and along with other statements made on the 350Z/G35C, is contrary to what you stated.

THat is actually a solotion to the problem of limited air flow to the front cylinders. The front 2 cylinders get 30% less air than the rear ones dues to the slanted intake manifold that accomidates the strut bar and the low sloping hood.

I rolled up on some dude yesterday, I was in the 1996 911 turbo and he was in a white 350Z track. The boy didn't want any. I would wait for him to pull up next to me and then nail it, I did it a couple times. If those things are soooo fast and cooool what the fuck was he being so scared for. I'm sure if I was in the CL-S he would have raced me. I guess he was just scared he would have his ass handed to him, and trust me he would have. 350Z is for gay. I would get a vette for that money. Then I wouldn't have to be scared of losing. (Lingenfelter Supercharger kit!!!!!)

two different types of torque bands, the cl-s builds up speed as the rpm's rise, the z just accelerates at the same rate throughout the rpm range. very flat and slow feeling, but when you look at the speedo, you'r actually going a tiny bit faster than the cl-s. I still prefer the slingshot feel of the cl-s, its mire fun to drive. by the way, the auto cl-s with H/I/E is just as fast as an auto stock 350Z, I drove them back to back.

I drove a G35 Coupe-manual and a G35 sedan-auto. My modded TL-S felt faster than the sedan for sure, and on par with the coupe...

You gotta get your license out and go test drive some other cars! The only "violent" cars I've ever driven are my uncle's '57 Chevy with almost 900 horsepower and my dad's new 911 Turbo (though to be honest, the AWD makes it seem less violent I suppose than the Chevy)...

You guys can compare dyno graphs all day, but in the end, low rpm torque always beats out high rpm horsepower on the street. Unless you're talking about top speeds.

But IMO, a car with good low end torque is much more of a pleasure to drive than a car with little low end torque, but decent high rpm horsepower. Take the S2000 for example-- even with it's gearing, it's incredibly weak until the revs really start to get up there. I hate that shit. Makes the car feel slow unless you really start beating on it.

well, this is thread topic is pretty much a mute point for me and most 350Z owners. I don't know anyone who bought a Z to keep it stock...too much fun to be had with aftermarket. I'm still socking away cash for engine mods which are in ~very~ abundant supply for the Z. By next year my z should be a monster. The VQ has big bolt-on NA and FI aftermarket potential, and from what I've seen lately from Crawford(RES/plenum), Borla, Procharger, etc; at a very minimal cost and risk to engine internals.

Who the hell buys a Z and keeps it stock anyway? That's no fun at all.

guys i love both the 350z g35 and the acura cl type s... my cousin has a g35 coupe auto with intake, my brother has an 03 cl-s with intake... they raced at a roll from 45 to about 90 they where nose to nose... with the g pulling ever so slightley... now from a dead stop until 90 or so the g with evan launches is a car ahead of the cl -s... the g is faster but its not going to destroy a cl-s... i think thats the best answer to this topic right there.. and the 350 z is no faster than a g35 same car

looks like 10-12 whp. Costs about 400$. Not huge, but add it to the other goodies available and it gets interesting.

You just need to get the twin-turbo 350Z featured in Motor Trend, I think it was a Greddy kit. 350HP.

The only big plus for the 350X is the 3000lb curb weigth and the high torque numbers (230 lbft at the wheels, 30 lbft more than CLS!)
It weighs 3300 lbs. More than a VEtte. I can't figure out how such a little car with such a lacking interior weighs so much.

Nissan has overstated the VQ. Remember, the Maxima.org guys had the "LET'S SUE NISSAN FOR OUR HORSEPOWER" thread. The Maxima was not making any more power than the Altima. The Z is a mid to high 5 second car which really puts it in CL-S territory and DEFINTELY CL-S-6 territory. THe G35 coupe is right there too.

Not magazine racing but the 0-60 of 5.5 in Car and Driver for the G35c is just as fast as the Z.

THe Z needs turbos badly.
I rolled up on some dude yesterday, I was in the 1996 911 turbo and he was in a white 350Z track. The boy didn't want any. Ya'lls comments are funny but I have YET to have a 350Z owner bite as well. Cause in the back of their head, they know it's anyones race.

I've seen the Accord coupe compared to the CLK 320 in Motor Trend. The Z is a helluva sports car (one of the best) but not an accleration king.

Why don't you guys check some of the Z sites before coming to these ridiculious conclusions? Most Z's I have seen dyno in the high 230 to low 240 hp range. Looking at dyno's from mod manufacturers trying to sell performance parts are of course going to use samples that have a low baseline hp to show huge gains to sell their products.

0-60 in 5.4 seconds is not slow. It's faster than most cars on the road, and the Z has HUGE aftermarket potential
