Should I get a new car, or just chill?
Here's the story...In 2006 I just wanted something new as I was getting tired of my 97' CL I had since high school. I spent tons and tons of money on it on various mods, and just got tired of rocking over speed bumps, worrying about rims, etc. Overall I just grew out of the car, as it was my life for years, and wanted something normal just to focus on school/other stuff.
So I picked up a 2006 Accord LX 4-cyl. When I got the car, I basically wanted to keep the payments pretty low, so I went real basic. Cloth interior, etc. Put nothing down and got it for 275/month, which I'm still pretty happy about. I was very glad at first to have a brand new car, as it is/was very reliable, and it was cool to have something brand new, as I never did before.
Now I'm just bored of the car. I'm really not sure if I consider it a downgrade or an upgrade from my 97 CL, as it had everything (leather, hids, rims, etc)
I keep seeing attractive lease deals like $299/month for a TSX with a minimal down payment, and around $350/month for a TL and I was thinking I should just upgrade to one of those, as I was always more into luxury then anything else. Speed/Power was never really big into me, more so show/looks. Some of my close friends died racing, so I was always into show vs. go.
My lease has 18 months left, should I just hold out? I kinda feel its dumb to get something new now, and I should just wait. I almost feel bad even considering it, as I should feel lucky to even have a new car. I know in 18 months alot of stuff will be out, that would be pretty interesting...09 TL, 09 TSX, 09 EX37/EX37 etc.
Also what can I do to the Accord to keep me more interested in it? The cloth seats/regular headlights/4cyl just seem to make me blah. I'm thinking of getting it detailed this weekend, to revive it a little. I was going to put in a Cold Air and add a front lip, but I don't even really want to get started as once I will do that I will probably spend thousands more Just want to stay stock for the most part.
Sorry for the rant. I type fast, and didn't realize how much I can go on and on. Haha.

you can get some sweet deals on 07/08 TSX's right now that were dealer loaner cars. If you want more speed/power I'd wait for the SH-AWD 09 models cuz you won't get much juice outta the 07/08's.

Any little things to do to the Accord to make it clean/fun? I tinted it up dark, and shaved the emblems.

The accord is a great car, I just get bored easily.

personally i would wait until your lease runs out and then don't spend any money modding the leased accord that you're gonna turn in anyway. by that time the 09 tl, 09 tsx, among a ton of other new cars, will have been out long enough to get good deals on them. then u can buy one and mod the hell out of it since u've been saving for the past 18 months.
i really would hesitate to get a new car right now since the new body tl and tsx are due later this year. why do u think the lease/finance rates on the current gens are so good now?

I'd wait. The next year and a half will go pretty quick and then you'll have some new options to look at. Or, I'm sure you could get a slammin' deal on a leftover '08 TSX or TL when the new ones come out.

Dont do it, and whatever you do DONT lease your next car. If you like to do mods buy a 04+ TL automatic owned by an old man/woman and your payment wont be much more than what you are at now, espcially if you put some money down
The best feeling is having a nice, reliable car that is PAID OFF. Imagine how much more money you could put into the car if you didnt have a payment on it. Not that that's the best idea financially, but its better than giving it to the finance company.

Does your car fit your needs as of now? If so there's no need for a new one. Simply "wanting one" or "I'm bored with it" are not good reasons to shell out $ on a new car. Unless you have that $ to blow away.
This is how most of America gets in debt.
Only buy what you need when you need it & can afford it.
Remember the added costs......more $ in gas, insurance, & DMV.

Don't do it ... 18 months left of payments @ $250 ... it'll cost a pretty penny to get out of it. Save what you have ... the economy isn't getting much better until after the presidential elections, so save now.
A lot of new cars are coming out in this timeframe. You will be asking yourself this very same question in a couple year's time about getting out of the lease of a car you got into back in the start of '08.
4-cyl Accord? There are a lot of parts for a 7th gen. Take a look at any 'tuner mag. Go simple -- tint, used rims, sways, maybe coilovers (or just springs). Shouldn't cost you any more than $2g to really make it fresh. And the beauty of it is ... it'll be easy to resell. Craigslist, kijiji, ebay, etc ... look and you'll be surprised how easy and cheap it is to mod a 7th gen Accord.

Chill...
I've "wanted" a new car for about 2 years, but I just don't "need" one yet.
I've got the money to blow, but with only 68K miles on my CL, and the fact that it's paid off there really aren't that many good reasons for me to pull the trigger...

Like others have suggested, keep the car for now.
If you're bored with it, maybe you can do some simple mods such as coilovers, front lip, rear deck lid/spoiler, new wheels, tint..... hell, if you want a leather interior, you can have someone redo the interior for you too.
Basically, do a few simple mods that can easily be removed when you decide to turn in the lease.
You can check out places like Gen7Accord or for ideas. $2 - 3K should give you a nice looking ride and keep the bordum to a minimum.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking...I'm very impulsive, and the guy from Acura basically told me I could get out for no penalties and pay $360/month for the TL with 1k down, but then I'll be locked in for another 36 months. I'm just going to "chill" as I'm still in college anyway.
I may upgrade the interior to leather, and get a front lip though I will post some pics of the car in the next week or so.

the scenario would be different if suppose you were driving a clunker that was in the shop all the time and guzzle gas like water, both costing you a ton of money, but an 06' Accord?? That car for many people is suppose to last another 20 years

If you're gonna keep this car as long as you kept the '97, then buy new. If you think that for any reason your earnings will increase to teh point where you'd want something better than the TSX, buy used.
Don't buy new and then trade it in 2 years. That's just pissing away money.

it's hard to fight the urge to buy a new car especially when you have money to spend. but if you do have that extra money, invest it somewhere or at least put it in some savings account.
since you're still in college, i'd just wait until you graduate, get a job, and have even more money to spend and then get a car that you really want.

1) If you're upside down (owe more than the car is worth), they'd roll that amount into the TL's lease.
2) With 18 months left, you're probably still upside down.
3) You should never base a lease on the monthly payments and down payment. Always negotiate the price of the car just like a normal sale.
Like everyone else said, just chill. Newer and "better" comes out every year when it comes to cars. You should start thinking about your new car when you have about 3 months left on your lease. It will be easier to sell it outright and/or negotiate an early lease return. Good luck.
