Should I get it?

http://tampa.craigslist.org/psc/cto/870972898.html

It's a 99 Civic w/ a rebuilt title. Owner says he bought it for his son and it was stolen. Car was recovered (obviously) and parts were replaced. Odometer was cut off by thieves per the owner and he claims it has about 150k miles. It's a MT. Owner also said that his son has a new car and now that he has 4 cars in his driveway, he just wants to get rid of it.

This is going to be a beater if I do buy it.

Your thoughts?

Also check if FL has any additional requirements for Rebuilt or salvage titles. Sometime the additional inspections could be a bear. Also not sure if you could get comp & collision coverage on the vehicle.

If you are OK with the above and if the car condition checks out to be OK with no Engine or body codes, I say $2000 is a fair price. I think this is a sunken cost as you will proabably have tough time selling the car.

That is a good price. If it were a clear title vehicle expect the price to just about double. Test drive it, if everything checks out ok, i would scoop it.

If it runs/drives fine, I'd go for it. Not a bad price for a 99 even with a rebuilt title.

I say grab it, but you might want to have a mechanic take a look at it, just to be safe.

always my favorite body style civic. I'm not surprised they said it got ripped off. Every single person I know (4 out of 4) that had the SI from that generation had it stolen at least once.

look for rust underneath the seat and look for corrosion on the wire harnesses under the dash.

if it was a stolen car and has an r-title, i say go for it.

Just remember, when you sell it, you may have problems unloading it unless it is real cheap

honestly, all those dirty title doesn't mean anything for older cars, especially honda's.

Test drive it to make sure that everything runs great, then buy it.

2k for 99 civic is a deal.

I would stay away from a car that was hacked up by thieves. Let alone the fact that they drove it. They probably beat the piss out of it. Who knows where they got the replacement parts from. $2k is a good price but you might have to put more into it.

I would at least bring it to Honda and see what they say.

Let someone who is good at body and frame work look at it. If the frame is straight, then it just might be worth it. Do what everyone above has said about getting it inspected.

Call your insurance agent first. You may even have a problem getting liability coverage for a salvage/rebuilt title, depending on who your ins company is.

if you think about it, a stolen car (if stolen for 1-3 days and then recovered) was probably not beaten on that much. The reason I say that is because if you stole a car, hypothetically, and didn't want to draw attention to yourself, you would drive cautiously, right? And if the stolen parts were replaced, so what. As long as the engine and tranny are fine, you're good to go.

but when you're running from the cops you're not gonna drive it like grandma.
it doesn't say if it was recovered after a police pursuit or just found out of the streets. if it was in a police pursuit the dude usually driving it like an asshole.
