BMW doesn't fire its designers when they screw up. BMW promotes them.

Overall, BMW has designed uninteresting looking cars since their inception. They only ones that have turned my head was the M1, and the 8 series. I liked the 1980s 6 series too, but I'll admit the design was boring.

umm no...Chris Bangle put the 7's back on the map in a big way...that's why he got promoted. I like both, the rims on the older one are better with the lip but that's about it...it's a nice update.

while i dont like the styling all that much, you cant deny the fact that i see new 7's wayyyy more then i saw the old one, and it has 10x the road presence

but bmw needs to go back to function>form

Ooooh, don't like the new style whatsoever. One thing I do know though, they better change the styling on the 5 series because those things look uuuuuuuuuuuuugly!

I think what's bothing me is the rear tail lights and the extra chrome trim on the top of the car. It seems excessive.

The only thing I like about the new one over the old one is the tail. Other than that... hand me the keys to the 04 please.

I have to dis-agree on that. Have u seen the pervious gen 7 series rear end and rear-end tires? Holy hit, that thing looks like a monster. I actually park beside a previous gen 7 series at my commuter train parking lot. I give lots of respect to it.

You probably notice it more because of the road presence, but in fact, the new 7-Series is not selling better than the old model.

That is why it's getting the face lift.

Even if I could get past the design, which I cannot on the 7, I would be guilty of murder after trying to use the iDrive system so many people complain about. Nothing in that car is easy w/ the iDrive. You want to change the fan speed and the last screen is audio related? Takes a few strokes before you get to where you want. Whatta colossal pain in the ass.

Chris Bangle has slowly ruined the brand. He created an ugly car that got no respect from the media and consumers. BMW execs even admitted that the designs were too radical, hence the redesign. In fact, I feel that in a few years BMW will no longer be benchmarked; Audi, Infiniti, or Lexus will.

I never thought the 7 Series was bad looking, I'd take one over an SClass Benz anyday. Too me it looks alot better than the last gen.

My dad used to own a E38 7 series and it was IMO a lot nicer than the current gen. The interior was a lot simpler and the quality was better. The exterior also was more classy, with cleaner lines. The new car does have more technology, a more powerful engine, and a better suspension. Basically, those are the only traits that are an improvement over the last gen.

I agree on the 7 series.....technologically better than the previous but too far. But the others I dont agree with

The Z4 is much nicer than the Z3. My sister owned a Z3 and now owns a Z4 and its really not even close how much nicer the 4 is.

The 6 series is awesome but IMO priced $10,000 too much. For the money I would get a CLK55 or a 911 over a 6 series.

The 5 series would be ok if it didn't follow what many people consider to be the greatest car ever. If people never saw the old 5, the new one would be a great car.

The one that I am curious about is the 3, specifically the M3. BMW is starting to climb in pricing and they have to realize that they can only go so much further. If M3's start hitting $70,000, no one will be buying them, like the 6 series.

I’m a big fan of the “Bangleized” BMW’s.
The 7 is too big, but I’d rock a 5-Series any day.

From what I’ve read, most of the people complaining are the younger generation (20’s).
Sure there many in that age group who CAN afford them, but that’s not BMW’s target buyer.

I’m looking forward some OFFICAL info on the new 3 Coupe & M3.

Are you a target buyer or just a big fan?

I actually like the 5-Series a lot.. Much more fresher than what others are offering, IMO.

The problem is that the younger generation is more willing to accept change. If younger people don't like the styling and are having a hard time getting used to it, then something is wrong. I know people like my dad don't like the styling. He won't even go look at a new BMW, even though he has recently owned 2 and loved them. The new 3 series looks decent, but a fully loaded 330i will be in the mid-high 40s, which is bringing it into a different price range. Also, BMW's cars are getting too heavy with each redesign. Manufacturers need to learn that adding horsepower is an easy solution. Reducing weight improves many aspects of the car including accelaration, braking, handling, and fuel efficiency.

I positively love the styling of the 7, 5 and 3. Especially the 5.

I have somewhat more of a hard time with the Z4 and X3.

I would never fire Bangle if he was under my responsability.

Hmm. I'm totally part of the target population and have never been that interested in BMWs.

The BMW looks great the only one I don't like is the 6 series coupe. The lights and design is real smooth.

Yeah thats pretty bad...he made the tail lights more ugly and he got rid of the deepdish rims w/ the shiney lip...

:sigh:

EDIT:

They actually made a benz with a wagon style like the pic above. I've seen it at a Benz Dealership in Decatur about 40 mins from my house. Except it was an older E-Class w/ the round headlights and it was painted with that chamileon paint w/ a mix between Purple, Blue, and Green. It was pretty ugly...I remember it was selling for like 90K something...

It's fake. Look hard enough and you can see where the artist got lazy. The roof of the car is at a slightly different angle and consequently so is the interior shot of the bed. The car is dirty, but the C-pillar (which I suspect came from a Lincoln Continental) is nice and shiny. Also notice the sheen on the bed's interior lining...if the car is that dirty, the bed cannot be that clean. There would be no legroom for backseat passengers with the rear doors being that short and the rear glass being so close to them.
