Shopping to lease new MS3, GTI MKV, or Civic SI
I'll be selling my 97 CL soon and am shopping to lease a new car. Within my price range are the new Mazdaspeed3 (very limit of my budget lol) the GTI MKV 4dr and the new Civic Si Sedan.
What prices are you all finding at your dealerships, and are there any other cars out there in that mid 25k price range that you would consider leasing as well?
Just trying to explore all my options before I decide what I want.
BTW, chances are I'll be going with the GTI. It's so fresh. I love the plad seats too... Still have to drive the Civic Si though and see what that thing's all about.

yea i would have to say GTI, i test drove it (just because lol) but the handling is tight, the acc. is amazing. the steering wheel feels great. Its just a car that already comes tuned for you. For the price the civic si is nice too, i mean it almost has 200hp (197) so its a nice pick up for the price and if ur stil into tuning turboed might be a nice competition with the GTI. However i've never been into the new si and from what i seein the GTI real good on turns. So if you can come up with the the money the GTI is nice

If you're looking to lease, drop the MS3 from the list. It's residuals are generally pretty poor and will lease poorly. You might as well buy for the price of the lease.
As for the GTI or the Si, depends on what kind of car you're looking for. All out driver's car, get the Si with the manual tranny. Otherwise, the GTI is a fun and relatively quick car with the dsg.

I have a MS3. I love it.
But it's more like a VERY fast wagon than a hatch and I think that makes a huge difference.
I think the Si would be an interesting choice especially on a lease.
As much as I like the GTI, I just don't know about the ownership experience. But the car will probably be nice to drive. I know the interior is a bit nicer than mine.
I do like the extra 50hp I have in my Mazda though

I know its not on your list but i got my leftover TSX for $24,890 with a big trade in and without the trade it would have been $25,120 so its something consider especially with the new one coming out. The 2008 TSX's and the TL's will be going for CHEAP!!!
Sticking to your list, i would suggest the Si as my friend has one and its a very nice car for the money and fun to drive. Heard about wy too many issues with the VW....

MS3 FTW. my buddy has a GTI, and the seats are uncomfortable and they are not power. there is also a ticking sound that comes from the pass front side (annoying as hell) vw says they all do that, "it's normal". if it was a Golf TDI, i would take that.

I can understand if you share a car and memory seats help, but even still, it's not that hard to move the seat.

Also the winding version is annoyed, I always liked the lever version.
I guess I got lucky because my integra GS-R had cloth seats, and the seat was all manual with lever for both front-back and backrest. the leather seats had round dials which sucked.

Test drove the SI... guy at dealership said I could get the navi version with fog lights and Ipod link for 26k~. Gotta go back to VW dealership and see what kinda price they can give me.
Overall, my favorite points on the Si were the transmission (going from 1 honda tranny to another maybe made transition easier, or is it that good of a tranny?) Seats (ridiculously comfy) and drive overall felt really good.
I was not impressed by the "Premium" sound system. I was expecting a bit more for premium status I guess.
Gotta go take another look at the GTI.. and to think, I was pretty much sold on the GTI until tonight.. lol.

You are correct the seats are uncomfortable and I only weigh 133 pds!!

I'm gonna say Si. Ive been really tempted to get one even though I'm dying for the new challenger next year. A sales manager I know just took an 06 a/ 12k and would sell it to me for 18.5. They took it for 18.

I like the GTI...So, the seats aren't fully power, who cares...They are comfortable for me, i'm in the 200lbs neighborhood. Just don't mind overanxious check engine light that turns on everytime the car farts the wrong way..

i never liked the vw manual seat adjustment. But once I set my seat I never really change it, unless I have something big in the back.
Leasing I think i'd definitely go GTI. I don't really like the way the si sedan looks. The only thing keeping me from considering a GTI would be that I would want to buy, and I'm not sure about the long term reliability of the GTI.
I've never driven the GTI though. I sat in one a few times at dealerships, car shows, and the seat never seemed unconfortable to me. I also like the plaid because it's something a little different and quirky.

Get a pre-owned 03 CL Type-S 6 speed or 03-07 Accord 6 speed (even comes in a sedan). Better features, more power, awesome transmission, less money (picked up mine w/ 34k miles for under $16k) and 4 banger gas mileage. I just spanked a new Civic Si from a stop light with my 03 AV6 6mt, all while averaging 28 mpg with my V6.

have you thought about a Nissan SE-R Spec V. 
this is my favorite of "small fun sedan" class.
cause pretty much in that class is:
VW GTi
Civic Si

Even new, my 07 AV6 AT (navi) was $25,900 (pre TTL)...and this was prior to the new 08s hitting the showroom. There should be even better deals on the 07 now. Just a matter of looking at the 7G beyond its aesthetics. 
Performancewise, the only stock car mentioned by the OP that could run the AV6 6MT is the MS3. All other factors equal, the AV6 6MT should walk the Si and GTI pretty handily all day long.

I just looked at the Si sedan again. goddamn its fun. I said my realisitc numbers would be 22k otd. they said that was realistic i i do get ready to buy.
