Shell "Nitrogen-Enchanced" Gasoline

Started seeing a few TV spots on Shell's new Nitrogen fuel additive. See Shell Press Release here.

As you can see, it is very heavy on the marketing. The closest thing I could find to an explanation is: "The Nitrogen Enriched formula is proven to prevent build-up of gunk more effectively than gasolines containing only the minimum amount of cleaning agents as required by the EPA."

Any benefits or drawbacks to this additive?

I haven't heard of this 'special' gas before, but any idea of what form this 'nitrogen' is in? I assume it's just another form from the amine group which has been a part of additives in gas for a long time (ie. techron).

I dunno but I got a $50 gas card from work and it was from Shell. Needless to say, I was only able to fill up twice with that thing. So whatever that is that they're advertising, they definitely charge you for it.

I saw it yesterday. The Chevrons' 87 was $2.13 and the Shell next door was $2.35.

SAD.

I haven't ran Shell in years since there's only 1 in like 20 miles. all the Shells around here converted to Marathons.
now i'll say this about Shell vs Marathon fuel: Shell 100 times better than Marathon fuel in Hondas. same goes for diesel in trucks. Shell you'll pay a little more for but in Hondas i got about 10-15% better mileage.

Wink My Experience

The Shell station near my home usually charges an extra $0.12 for Plus & another $0.12 on top of that for Premium - so $0.24 more than regular.

A few days ago I noticed that the prices were:
  • Regular - $1.89
  • Plus - $1.93
  • Premium - $2.03
Which I thought was some kind of mistake so I filled up on Premium- not knowing anything about Shell's new gas. I immediately noticed that my car was accelerating a lot more smoothly & wondered why ... not saying that it had anything to do w/ the gas but it is a coincidence ...

Wouldn't that be "Oxygen Enhanced" not "Nitrogen Enhanced"?

I saw this on a pump display the other day. I can't figure out what Nitrogen does to reduce carbon deposits.

+1 on typical Marketing BS.

Although, I've always like Shell Premium over most/all other brands. Car seems to run better.

I usually use only chevron or shell. Both stations are right next to each other. Today the shell station was 4 cents cheaper for 93 octane. Both stations yield similar MPGs for me with maybe chevron beating shell. no noticable difference in performance between the two stations either.
I filled up a tank of nitrogen gas and i will post if there is any unusual differences in MPGs for you guys. It will be in the MPG section of the garage first.
I doubt it will have any effect considering that the new gas is supposed to clean your engine not add MPGs to it.

You mean 91 octane? I haven't seen anything with more than 91 Octane in Sacramento except for some Texaco Race Fuel at the now defunct Senator Ford.

I haven't heard anything about the new Shell gasoline, at least in my area. Maybe it hasn't reached this neck of the woods yet.

I've seen a couple TV spots and heard a few radio ads too. Pure IMO.

California hasn't had anything higher than 91 for years.

I've been buying Shell 93 for a couple years now. Filled up tonight with the nitrogen enhanced stuff, noticed no difference. Doesn't matter, the 2 Shells I go to cost less than the Exxons around me.
