Settle this stupid shifting argument

My roommates argument says... if you want to race a car, you should shift from 1st, to 3rd, to 5th... skipping gears to maximize each RPM.... "guaranteeing that he will get to top speed alot quicker because he skipped two shifts"

with the same car....

My argument says... if you want to race a car, you should shift throughout all the gears to attain the highest RPM point within each gear to get to the highest HP and TQ.

in a nutshell, he's saying the car gets to top speed quicker skipping gears.... I say he's a fucking retard cuz he's a chink. obviously kidding with that last comment

i hope he loses the over/under on the eagles game like he's losing this argument...

Skipping gears is retarded and will cuase you to fall out of the power band. You want to utilize each gear, holding each one for as long as possible before you lose power before shifting.

I heard about a guy who had his Evo bashed with a bat. He wanted the dealer to give him a new car.

Is he your friend too?

You don't need attain the highest RPM point, you need to attain the highest point where you make the most power and shift before you you get out of powerband. Some cars make most power well before redline.

That line just did it for me... Why don't ya take him and tell him to race the way he wants, and you drive the correct way... Hopefully a visual demo will show him that he is just being an idiot....

My floor panel fell out on me and caused sparks to fly everywhere last week.

Then I melted the welds on my intake manifold. Me and the mad scientist then had to rip apart the block and replace the piston rings I fried.

Edit: You should race your friend. Whatever he says to you after you destroy him, you should simply reply: "Wuss yo problem nigga. you didn't win"

you ended up arguing with a dumbass.

Cease arguing when you realize that you've run across a one (which shouldn't take long). All they do is take you down to their level and beat you with their idiotic experience......

Unless you are driving a turbo diesel that makes all it's power off idle and dies up top; then, maybe then, it would be good to be in that low range to maximize power. But the load you put on an engine and tranny would kill them. Ideally i'd power shift through all the gears. And your friend is a fucking retard.

You're a dumbass for posting this. Obviously you weren't so sure yourself. But as said before, your friend is dumb as shit. You don't skip gears and you don't race in 5th gear. Depending on what you're driving and how you're racing, most of the acceleration is in 2nd gear.

Why exactly do you not race in 5th gear? I raced a Camaro SS well into 6th last week. Explain.

Ask any racer, any real racer. It doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile; winning's winning.

If your friend honestly believes that, then tell him to put anti-freeze in the engine instead of oil. Explain to him that by doing this the engine will not only stay cooler but that it will gain horsepower. Then post pics!

You mean you don't do that already? Haven't you heard that putting antifreeze in the engine cools the air around it which on the other hand is being sucked in by the intake? Everyone knows that cold air is better than warm air.

Your both wrong. Since you go the fastest in 5th gear, you should shift from 1st to 5th as soon as you can.

That's BS. You should just launch in 6th so that you don't have to shift at all. Screw SMG, no shifting is better than fast shifting.

You must never do any street racing. I was just poking fun at the stupid logic.
