Second car, which would you pick?

911 but a newer one ... Getting the '84+ is a good idea with the 3.2 but the G50 trannies in the '87 and '88s are supposed to be WAY better.
I've driven an '87 911 Targa and it's a fun car. The 911 is going to be a completely different experience from either the M3 or the S2k obviously.
Everyone charges a premium for a 911 coupe because of the demand for them for Porsche club racing. Personally, I'd go with at least an '87.
Side benefit? You can actually do work on them yourself

IF there is even the remotest need for backseat utility then the choice is obvious.

S2K would be my vote.
However, if I had those options and I had the money, I would get the Porsche. With those choices, I would think I would be able to afford the up-keep on it, and it's just a more unique car than the M3 or S2K.

If you need to haul around the little ones I would not chose any of the cars listed above. Safety comes first.
If it were up to me, id get the m3 Although I have a soft spot for porsche

my dad owns a '87 911 carrera as a summer car and actually the maintenence on it isn't that often but when it does need it...it's rather pricey. it's a great car though, makes as much power as a 330ci but it hardly weighs anything. combine that with the 5 speed tranny and the handling of a go-cart and it's an absolute joy to drive.

what's the goal with your second car? weekend car? track car? how tight are you on money? are you planning to mod this one? as others have said, those are very different cars. If you want another luxury car that is also going to perform great, get the m3. nobody bridges lux and performance better than BMW. But you already have a nice lux tl. imo, get a low mile used s2k for 23k, pick up some coil overs, supercharger, full turbo back exhaust, headers, intake, lightweight clutch, and forged wheels (still cost you less than 40k) and go rape a few m3s on the track
