Sarlacc gets his wife an Alfa
#241
My take on things and why I picked what I did.
1.) Obviously don't do something you're not comfortable with.
2.) Don't settle for something you don't want, that ends up being more expensive in the long run.
3.) I went Tesla 100000% for the charging infrastructure. The car itself is between good and great, the infrastructure makes it amazing. The other EV's just aren't there on that yet.
4.) Tesla leasing is terrible, you're better off through a third party broker if you want to go that way. Either that or buy. Get rates from local banks too, not just Tesla.
5.) IMO, just buy out the Alfa and roll with it for another year. Then trade it in on something you actually want when the market is less nuts.

That said. We spend the holiday weekend out at my parents in the desert. We drove the Mach-E again...this time a RWD...its a dog 0-60, but at speed its zippy. Wife still didn't love it. Dealers out there wanted a $5k mark up but said "If you order one, its just msrp, we didnt tell you that" like they are doing us a favor, lol. We were going to look at some other models, but ended up back at Tesla. We drove a Model 3 standard range. Its OK...a little stiffer, regenerative braking isnt as pronounced. I pulled my lower back at work on Friday...so getting in and out of it was painful. Back seat is smaller, and the hatch is deep but since the glass doesn't open with it you'd have to bend over and into the trunk. I noticed an "echo" or reverb while talking in the passenger seat. The sales associate said I was the 2nd person that day to mention it.
I had my wife drive the Y again to direct compare. Between the added space, smoother and higher ride. Its still the winner. We didnt drive anything...but my wife being my wife waffled with the idea of cheaper cars (that I know she would be happy with over a 3 year lease).
So, anyway...tonight we put a deposit down on the Model Y Long Range AWD, black on black. I plan on buying it as the lease does indeed suck. And we will pull money out and put a sizable downpayment on it. My wife is concerned about being out that much money up front...as anyone would/should/could be. But in the long I think it's the way to go. Between no gas, and virtually no maintenance it should be an easy vehicle to own long term...or with the larger down payment should (hopefully) retain a decent amount of equity should we choose to get rid of it at some point.
Either way...barring some sort of financial emergency before the vehicle is delivered...that's where we are right now. Decision made.

Congrats! Now begins the waiting game for Elon to get off his ass and build the car for you. I'm sitting at nearly 2 months of waiting lol. Ordered 4/11/21, expected between 06/06 and 06/26.
Did you get the FSD that doesn't FSD?

I did not spend $10g on fsd. It’s coming as a subscription this year. So, if I ever use it it’ll be that way.

I remember black used to be free and now you have to pay more for black and white is free.
I built a Model Y Performance White on White.... Not bad for 61k.... That "potential saving" shit is still annoying me after all these years...

Nice go ahead on the Tesla! The 2021 Y has some upgrades over the previous 2020….small but actually useful.
I’m a fan of white, but that carbon gray has my attention! I know it’s ~$1500 more than the white, buttt
I’m in for your and Sam’s review! I’ve been eyeing them for awhile!
I do wish they had the upgraded mileage that the new M3 has with 353/charge vs 326/charge. Also am shocked the performance is much less 303/charge! I understand you’re paying for a second quicker to 60, and 20mph top speed over the dual motor, but damn!
Is some mod going to change the title of thread? J?

We'll probably make a couple trips out to the desert to see my folks. Not much else planned. If the Y comes in before school starts I might try and plan a supercharger road trip.

You and I are cut from the same cloth.
When I had the CTS-V I couldn't stomach the $60 every 2.5 days.
I mean, I had the money but I also have a bunch of kids and other
shit to put my money towards.
