To be honest, if this is for your wife primarily, i dont think she cares 0-60 in 4 or 5 or 6 secs. They should be plenty fast for almost everyone.

As far the range, i think Tesla's 330 miles = Ford 270 miles. In this case, Ford does have "Superior" miles

You’re right. It’s primarily her car. But if it’s not a fun car. Then we have no fun cars. And that will suck asshole.

Is your budget for this car higher with the idea that you'll just have the 1 car for both of you?
Why can't you take turns picking what the 2nd car is. She can drive the IS, it's safe and good on gas and nice, right?

You seem to refresh your garage quite regularly...I'm pretty sure it's only a matter of short time before you get yourself a replacement for the IS. You can have your fun car then. Again, it's your wife's car and so, get her something she wants.

the whole point is if she knew what she wanted there wouldn’t be any issues (or fewer)

So why leave it up to her.
Sounds like she just doesn't like the hassle and you're the asshole no matter what.
Might as well be the asshole that picks what he wants if that's going to be the case.

Its more making the budget work.

Right now the Model Y is winner, but its the most expensive. I've never put that much down on a lease and had that high of a monthly. Its a lot. And I live the freelance life...in fact my current TV show wraps up in 2.5 weeks' nd I dont know what the future will bring.

The only deals the ID4 are getting are the 7500 fed credit and 1500 CA credit...its also not a cheap lease for what that car is....and apparently given incentives, etc some people are managing to steal e-trons off the lot....but thats a whole new can of worms to explore.

I was given some great numbers from Alfa to stick with them...but I was too good at talking my wife into EV, so that what she thinks we need to explore (and honestly I still agree)

I'm waiting for a friends broker to tell me what can or can't be done on a Mach-E. If numbers were favorable my wife would give it another chance.

Problem is she see these high numbers (and they are) and says "maybe we need to look at the Kona and Niro EVs" and I say ok, I like the Kona, actually...but then its "they are too small" when she sees them on the road...and again, she isn't wrong.

Between EVs just not being plentiful enough yet, the booming secondary car market and the microchip shortage...It's a pain in my ass.

But gas station.

CA gas tax increases next month...also the usual summer blend price increase, etc. I'm paying $4.05/gal for premium at Costco....reg stations its $4.80. I dont want to know what it'll be in two weeks...

Last tank of 87 here was 2.519. I think 93 is just over $3/gal.

Kia Niro EV has $12,700 in lease cash and the $1500 CA rebate.

Guess we are going to look at that now.

Just get the Model Y... u know that is the one you really wanted.

But for Tesla, i think it is better and "cheaper" to buy than leasing...

I saw a model Y in red yesterday on the road...proportions look good and pretty mean...
not like it's trying too hard either. I can see giving that a shot if you can swing it. You seem
open to EV anyway and there's no arguing the cost savings PLUS performance.

Id happily take a Mach E.

Fact is a Tesla lease is $5-6k up front and almost $600/month and to buy is more like $8-9k down and $750/month. Thats a lot of money for a car. And while I have it right now I'm also a freelancer who just survived not working for nearly a year during a pandemic, and my current show ends in 2 weeks.

Kia Niro EV, assuming we even like it, is $0 money up front and $4-430 a month. But that potentially goes away on the 31st.

There are things to consider. Such as getting a Tesla means definitely having to keep the Lexus for way longer than I wanted.

Playing devil's advocate here but .. what about rocking a fun / fuel efficient shitbox until you have more certainty & stability ahead?

If you get a cushy gig, Mach E time .

(I'm a big fan of the Mach E / what Ford is doing nowadays)

This. As the car manufacturers catch up and the market starts having more competition across the car segments, yeah...they will be much cheaper and/or with more incentives.

Not giving you an financial advises here as i am sure you can handle it on your own. But i agree. I would not get something that you are not comfortable with either. At the end of the day, there will always be another car a few years down the road.

But whatever you get, get it soon cuz the pricing is only going to get worse. There are just not enough cars to sells.

430 a month is still a lot of a Kia EV.... but that is probably about $50 more a month than April.
