She doesn't mean small as in the interior, but the exterior.
She feels like a 3 could be thrown around too much.
She thinks the S5 and 6 series are more 'beefed up'
She is a woman, and that's how she thinks.

Go read the post from I Go To Costco just up there ^^^ a few. She not going to be shredding up the roads. She doesn't really care in all honesty about performance. She wants a car that she looks and feels good in. The S5 and 6 series would do that for her. Not everybody, but she just seems to like it.

Everyone keeps saying the S5 should be compared to the three, and the 6 series should be compared with the A6/S6...why?
S5:
V8 Engine
HP - 354
Torque - 325
0-60 - 5.0
Disp - 4.16L
Weight - 35??
650i:
V8 Engine
HP - 360
Torque - 360
0-60 - 5.3
Disp - 4.8
Weight - 3814
The 6 series does have a little bigger and more powerful engine than the S5 yes, but the S5 beats its if nothing else because of shear weight...
I would say they are fairly equal, than again I'm not a complete auto guru that knows every in and out and whatnot...just my

It's in her eyes.
I guess to her it 'looks' small. Like I said, she doesn't in all actuality really care about the true performance or dimensions, more the way it looks though. And to her, the S5 "looks" bigger..."looks" heftier. She likes it. Doesn't ask me.

power wise the 335 might be only at 300 but its also only an I-6 turbo. performance wise, they are ALL about the same. I just think its silly to compare 2 cars and leave out a 3rd that is right there next to both of them, made by the same company and could come fully loaded for about $35k less than the base 650i and about $10k less than the S5.
shes your mom, i really couldn't care less what she drives, not like i'm gonna get to drive it however from a person with an opinion, she should at LEAST consider all 3.
Plus with all the economy bullshit happening now, does your family REALLY want to sink $80k into a car right now??? if is nothing to you and u guys can write off $80k like its nothing then shit... why not buy both???
or even better, send some cash over this way... I could use some more tuition money.

I don't know if I offended you in anyway, but sorry if I did. First off, I will reiterate what I said all along. My mother doesn't care about the performance. She likes what she see's. When she see's the S5 and the 650, it's something that she likes. Trust me when I say if it was my decision and my car, I would go for the 3 series. But it's not. It's my mother. The comparision numbers I put up there were just for sake of saying other than price, they are comparable in performance because everybody was turning it around and asking why she wasn't considering a 3 series.
Let me put it like this. I'm sure you've had a girlfriend sometime in life. When yall are driving around she see's a car she likes, is she saying "Wow, that's a pretty car!!", or "WOW! I WONDER HOW MANY HORSES ARE UNDER THAT HOOD!?". Same with my mother. She just....likes them.
Secondly, my parents (well, I guess my dad since he brings home the bread) have been very fortunate despite the whole economy issue all the way back to '01. He was never laid off, never had a pay cut, and just last year, he took the assets his mother left behind after she passed and invested it into buying an apartment complex in houston. It makes him more than his "primary" job which already allowed us to live comfortably. I am by no means trying to be all pompous and brag my parents well-being, but you brought up the economy issue. Point being is, if they really wanted to, and they were so inclined to, they could get an S5 AND a 3 series, but they aren't and they won't. Why? Because as my dad has taught me, just because you have the funds to buy 'X', 'Y', and 'Z', doesn't mean you should. They've talked about if in fact they do ge a 650 or S5, about getting a base model MINI Cooper just as an everyday car, and the other as the nice weather, going into town, 'feeling good' kind of car.
Basically what I am trying to say through all of this is this is what my mother and father are considering...
A) An Audi S5, or
B) A BMW 650i
THAT'S IT!!! No option 'C'! ....and it's because that's what they like, not because they are gonna be shredding the streets up.
Is that too much to fathom??

I change my vote to the 650i convertible. It looks incredible, at least for me.

It just irks me when I see someone trying to dictate things that others should or shouldn't buy based on the current economy. Worry about your own damn pockets.

The 650i is an awesome car no doubt (I got to drive one once) but the S5 is just better at least for the price. The 650i might be better (not sure I dont think anyone has compared them) but for the extra money its just not worth it over the S5.
So +1 S5
So +1 S5
