S5 or 645i???
My dad is think about buying my mother a new car within the year, and he's really kind of torn between the two. My mother loves them both, and she's not really brand biased towards either one.
He asked me to post this up and see what yall's views were on the two. Thanks!

We actually had our name on the list for the S5 at the local Audi dealer and we were in line to get the first one (silver one), but we decided to pull our name off. I think we'll end up getting one... but likely the A5, not the S. The wife doesn't need that much power. Plus, she drives a lot for work, so spending all that money on gas for the S isn't something we want to do.

Might be. I don't keep up on it that much. I just know I like the S5!

you do realize there is an almost $30k difference in base price right?
shit, for that i say get the S5 fully loaded, then make your dad give you part of the $20k he saves for some mods or even a new ride for yourself.
in sheer appearance the S5 is a little better looking than the 650i but shit, nothing drives like a BMW

My mother doesn't really like the 3 series. Too small for her. I know price range is pretty spread between the two, but I know the performance of the S5 and 650i is fairly close if I recall correctly. You see three series EVERYWHERE. At least with the 650i or S5 there isn't as many either.

well its actually only a matter of an inch or two between them. the 6 series just has a longer body to accommodate that monster v8 under the hood.

and youre telling me the performance of an M3 and a 650 aren't close? last time i looked an M3's 4.7sec 0-60 was better than a 5.3 of a 650i

I will be in the minority but I always liked the 645 in convertible form. I really like the design. Between the two?...I'll have to go with the S5.

let me ask this also... why the hell is you mom buying a sports car to being with? is she that much of a car enthusiast? if she's driving an S5 then I really hope your dad has a ferrari, lambo or porsche. im not saying women cant buy/drive nice cars i just think its rare to see a middle aged woman driving a sports car... usually they just want an S class benz or Jag.

no but he said his dad is getting his mom the car so i am assuming his dad would probably have a nice car. i doubt anyone would drive a kia and buy their wife an s5 or 650i.
im just saying shit, if mom gets an S5 i wonder what dad drives.

Well actually no. My dad has his big 'ol Dodge Diesel and he's content with that to be quite honest. He's thought about getting a new one. My mom is actually the one that enjoy's the finer cars and the luxuries and whatnot. And by that I don't mean she likes luxury in the form of a fat seven series. She likes the sporty coupes. My dad no doubt would drive it to, just not as much as her. I'll put in into perspective. She got a new CTS about 4 years ago. She loves it. Both my parents drive it, but my dad calls it 'hers' and shes the primary driver of the car. Not that he doesn't enjoy driving a nice sports car, but he honestly wouldn't want to drive a nice car to work (he's a pilot) and park there for two or three days to come back and find dents or scratches that he will have no chance of finding the guilty party.
Basically he doesn't mind driving his truck. My mom is the one who really enjoys having the extra power and nice car, so no, my dad does not drive a ferrari or anything like that.
Oh in my comparison before, I was trying to differenciate (sp?) between the 6 series and the S5, not the M3 and the 6 series.

And she dislikes to think shes getting there, but I'll defend her in saying that she's only 40, and she doens't look it either. I wouldn't consider middle age until about 50ish and you're getting those nice wrinkles and whatnot. Nothing against that, it's nature, just saying.
Yea yea, I stick up for her....I'm a momma's boy.

Though I have no idea why she would buy a sports car if she didn't drive it hard. She probably just likes the way it looks and the appeal of a sports car. I don't know, all I know is I'd only buy an SUV if it were 4WD and I went up to Tahoe at least every other weekend, towed ATVs or utilized its full potential somehow. And likewise if I got a sports car I would be shredding up the tires whenever I got the chance to do it safely.
Women are just weird like that... my mom wanted an RX300 years back, and when I asked her why, she just said she liked it. Not because she needed to haul crap around or anything, just 'liked it.' Same goes for my sister, when both of them buy a new car, they don't even test drive it. Its best that we don't ask....

they seriously aren't even in the same class. A5/S5 should be compared to the 328/335, while the 550/650 are with the A6/S6.. but no coupe in that class.
if she thinks there isn't enough room in the 3 series.. don't buy a coupe. seriously
