S2K Problem

I am having a problem with my 2000 S2000 with ~35,000. When ever you push the gas decently hard, the rpms go up before the engine catches up. So pretty much when you give it gas the rpms soar up then fall when the engine catches. I know this is kinda similar to a bad clutcc, but it does it even when you haven't touched the clutch lately. For example I can be in first for a while then floor it and the RPMs fly upwards then like 2 seconds later the engine catches up. Is this a catylac(sp?) converter?

its the clutch. it can slip when you're already in gear. eventually your car wont be driveable. get it fixed. if you're lucky, it will just be an adjustment.

I would also say your clutch was slipping, it can happen to a brand new car if you burn the clutch.

I did find this interesting on 03-04's, don't know if you have one of these or not, but its a clutch delay slave cyclinder and it seems to act like a slipping clutch to save wear.

The Honda stealership looked at it for a while and is still not sure, said possibly clutch. How much is a new clutch? I looked at S2KI and I saw about 2 grand I thought they were like a grand max If it is the clutch should I have the dealer do it? I kinda hate the new dealer and they did some bad work on a friends care, but I don't know if I trust any other place anymore with my S2k?

First off, I agree with everyone, its the clutch.

Shop around, you can get a much better price, even at a Honda stealership.

Stealership says it is the clutch. They quoted $1,500. Is that fair? I am gonna start lookin around. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW
is that all I need in terms of parts, or is there more? thanks

With clutch servicing, the parts are really not that bad in terms of price, its the labor that makes it expensive. Can't hurt to call and ask around, but with a car like an s2k I would want someone who knows their stuff working on it.

I don't know much about s2k aftermarket, but if there is a reliable, stronger clutch out there why not try to get that installed.

Yea I understand the labor is why is it so expensive, I believe the tranny has 2 be taken out etc... My brother who owns an import shop said he would do it, but not 2 sure about his work level, and most the shops around here only do small stuff. I am going to register on S2KI and try to get some s2k specific answers, but thanks for your help.

It is my dads car and he was out of town so me and my mom drove it. My mom rode the clutch and is kinda a new manual tranny driver and I think she did it, but I will admit when I drove it I drove it like a sports car should and I am sure it didn't help.

Perhaps. I would do some mroe searching on the S2k forum, and see if anyone mentions it. In the meantime, I'll see if I can find that auction where the guy mentioned it.
