RWD (Sport) Sedans w/ Manual Transmissions
Help me out here. I'm thinking about what my next car will be, whenever the time comes to get rid of my current car. Please post all sedans that are RWD which come with manual transmissions.
I don't want to know about any AWD or FWD cars. 3 rules to keep in mind when posting: 1. Car HAS to be RWD only. 2. Do not post any coupes. 3. Car HAS to have a manual transmission. Just to start the thread off, I will post a few which come to mind: 1. Infiniti G37 2. Lexus IS250 3. BMW 3-series 4. BMW 5-series What other cars am I missing? |
M5.
|
Pontiac G8
Cadillac CTS,CTS-V |
Only the G8 GXP will have a manual if I remember correctly.
|
i still like the IS300's though.

JCE10L (00-05) Lexus IS300, albeit only the 2002-2005 cars were available with manual trans.
Cheap, reliable, great handling and refinement, styling, etc. |
i dunno how you feel about the MB C300's but its slower than your TL-S though.
|
G8
|
Agree with G8. that car is looks aggresive<----(spell check  )
|
And you didn't mention hoe much money you want to spend.
|
^^^I meant HOW. :pofl:
sorry. |
And a huge :werd: for IS300. that car still looks awesome.

Just give it a drive and let us know. Either way, at least you'll have an idea of what else is out there. God knows I can't afford one. :( |
Another vote for the 540i/6. The E39 was a great sports-sedan but I'm a little biased. But even BETTER, I would go for an E39 M5 which is a terrific value on the used car market currently. One test drive and you'll be in love, I promise.
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...7&rdpage=thumb http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ice=&cardist=8 Keep in mind that in general, the e39 M has proven to be fairly reliable comparable to other Bimmers or cars in it's price range (e55) having spent some time now on the m5board and speaking from personal experience. My second vote goes to the G8 GXP. |
M5 or g8

G8 GXP when it comes out. I'm already planning about 3 or 4 years ahead when I can find a low mileage preowned one to rock. I never ever thought I'd be interested in a Pontiac, but I can't not want that car.

In your price range the G37 will give you the most for your money, in particular when you factor in reliability and cost of ownership. 540's sound great until you have to live with one, some are great and rarely need work, others are a down right nightmare, to me, it's not worth the risk. If you don't mind sacrificing some power, a 328 can be had with better quality interior trim(when premium pack. equipped) factor in the no charge maintenance and it is a pretty nice package.
|
Out of those, the G37 would be your best bet. Going from a TL-S to a IS250 would be a huge step backwards. Just because the IS250 is RWD doesn't make it a better car. Its about the same weight as the TL, has a much less potent engine, and if you're bored driving the S then I wouldn't even consider a Lexus. :2cents:
3 or 5 would be great, but they're somewhat pricey unless you end up going used, then theres the whole uncomfort of owning a used bimmer. However, preowned 335's seem to be in the low to mid 30's though....hard deal to pass up since its in your price range and would ultimately be the best car to get. |

It's definitely something I will consider.
Try out the manual versions before buying as well to see if you like it compared to the auto version, because some of the manuals trans versions don't feel particularly good. :2cents: |
G8 GXP! You gotta love Pontiac's bastard step-child from down under. My friend just got an '07 G8 GT (auto) and has only put CAI and did a gear swap and runs 12.7 in the 1/4 mile.
The Gxp is even stronger and the 6-speed manual is out for 2009! Good luck with whatever you chose... Jabo |
my vote goes to the G37

Depending on your timeline, only the G35/37, G8 GXP (there is no manual option for the G8 GT), BMW 335i and CTS will be cars with manual transmissions and warranties within a mid-$30K price range, more likely used than new.

If you are going to drag race a high HP RWD car, the auto will give you a better launch and 60' time, but to me it is more fun to bang the gears myself. :2cents: |
2003-2005 330i ZHP came in 6 speed. There's a chance you could find one with a bit of CPO warranty left too.
|
New C300 sport can be had with 6-speed also. Not sure if you'd want to spend that much though.
IS250:spit: You did say "sport" didn't you? |
i was surprised how rough the ride is on the IS250. I drove my parent's for like 2 weeks, and it wasn't nearly as soft as the ES or GS's i've driven.
I didn't really drive fast, or 'test' the handling, but just driving down the freeway, I was surprised it was kinda bumpy. It might be down to the fact that it had the optional 18" wheels... if the point of having a sedan is for room though, I'm not sure i'd recommend the IS though. The back seats are pretty cramped, even with me driving at 5'7". |
545 or 550 BOOM TITS ( I think those come with M/T)
|
or 330 or 335. But I dont know how much you wanna spend
|
licoln ls  its still an option
|
A used M5 would be great, but I'm still leery of their reliability. G8 GXP would be nice, but fuel consumption is an issue.
I guess, so far, the Infiniti G would be the most viable new car choice. |

G37S, CTS DI, or 335i sedan.....

I would have chosen an auto over the manual on a 2005 G35 (heavy clutch, notchy shifter) or 2008 335i (rubbery shifters and very high clutch releases), but would choose the manual over the auto on a 2005 TSX or 2006 Mustang GT. |
The G8 GXP gives you the best bang for the money (in the 30Ks)
A used 335i is also a good option. It can be easily tuned to run in the low 12 sec. A used 2007 550i is still pricey. This is the first year the manual gear box is available. The earlier models are SMG (no clutch). The reliability of newer BMW are generally better. I had the 550i for over 2 years now and the only problem I had was I-drive (needed software update). My wife's X5 has no problem so far, knock on wood. |
One problem with your requirements. Few and fewer manufacturers are making manual these days.
|
335i vs G37 sedan, then

Keep on helping me out. It looks like G37S and G8 GXP so far. |
The G8 GXP is 40k. I'd go with used 335, 1st Gen CTS-V.

This trend will continue until it is the common place, not to say manuals will be completely obsolete, but they will continue to be less common. |
