The RR Journals: Quick oil drain valve

http://www.fumotovalve.com/

Haven't seen this mentioned, and Search revealed nothing, but this is a great product for quick engine oil drains, and once you get it installed properly*, you do not have to worry about crush washers and leakage from frequent bolt loosening and tightening. And it also is available with a hose nipple on the end, so if you have suspension mods (like the x-brace on my S2000) that limits access to the oil drain plug, or it spills onto something (like my x-brace), the Fumoto is the answer. Built very, very well.

Do not overtighten - it is made of brass, and uses a high quality fiber gasket - usually only a 1/4 turn past initial contact is all that is required. I have seen people break them by going crazy with over-tightening. I just went a bit past snug until it "felt" right, but I have a calibrated wrist/arm.

I had this valve on my Impreza and it is a well built product and I wouldn't hesitate using it again. I don't know if they make them for the OEM Acura and/or Brembo brakes but Speed Bleeders http://www.speedbleeder.com/ are another product I was very happy with.

I have mixed feelings about the Speed Bleeders, but that is for another thread. I reverse flush using the Phoenix Systems V10.

Have a fumotovalve on one car since new with 300+K on it now. 15 years and never removed it. On another with 220K+ 10 years same story Great! Have another car with Fram sure drain and very happy with that. Actually prefer the Fram because it is a little neater and I think a safer design.

A question for you...

Does this compromise ground clearance or is it above the fray? Any risk of snapping it off with a high center obstacle?

How much does it stick down vs. stock drain bolt?

(Not planning any off-road rallyes)

Moved to Ramblings

RR:

Good tip. Since it's generic and not specific to 3rd Gen, I will move this to Ramblings where more people might see it and benefit.
