LMFAO...
Well, here goes...
after getting her the Volvo it turns out she wasn't ready to leave the Vankulture life...with all the kids and kid's friends etc a van just makes sense...
road trips getting 28 mpg over 15 in the Yukon kinda sounds cool too.
We did the Goldilocks thing...checked out a cheap high mileage polished metal metallic, going over 130K miles to start didn't sit well with her....then we saw a lightly used 18' Touring but she wasn't comfortable with spending that kinda cash (keeper!!! ) and didn't care for so many electronics and gadgets and not being okay taking it on camping trips...we checked out some middle of the road stuff and finally decided on this one owner local trade in...4 pages of dealer maintenance on carfax...had michelin tires and an interstate battery and had the 105K service done at 77K. Clearly the owner cared about the car. Interior was pretty pristine, there's no way the person had kids...
Anyway...some minor plans but biggest thing was getting a brand and platform I know well, have support for and don't mind working on and making cool.
Crystal Black Pearl, 2012 which has the fogs that look like my old inspire fogs...throwback!...Truffle Interior...83K miles on her.
Kev...no lie...that was my biggest gripe because I park WAY over on the driveway and she always manages to park close enough for the kids' doors to reach my car to ding it...
I was relieved to get her back into a van.
Truth be told...
the Volvo is a great daily...it has the Polestar tune and in sport mode once the turbo spools it actually has some nuts...
when I'm not on it I'm getting 37ish MPG cruising to work in some seriously comfortable brown seats with a nice sound system and cool looks.
I'm good for a while...since we bought it and paid taxes on it I'll rock it for a bit and see what happens...in a few months or something I'll maybe
sell one of my other beaters and or this one and get into a man card worthy ride. In the meantime, I'm loving having some new muses...
Good thing about having so many cars is you need pieces to play chess...I have a lot of options!
Aside from a brittle coolant coupler popping, the master cylinder rod snapping and the temp sensor backing out early on..the Audi has not left me stranded. Once I got it sorted it's been pretty reliable since August of last year...I've put almost 5K troublefree miles on it. Just hit 193K and am still check engine light free....and get 300 miles to a tank in it. Even sounds good with the catalytic straight piped...
and I got it with almost NONE of the maintenance items done on it.

Kevin yes, those are my beaters but really I don't see them going anywhere anytime soon. The Audi was spoken for but buyer backed out when I got back from Suisse...
it happened years ago when I was told not to fall in love with my cars...
plus, I pictured my Eulogy..."here lies J, he was a real car guy that only owned a small handful of cars and ended up dying in his reasonably priced used japanese from ohio luxury sedan that he kept waxed and well maintained for 60 years"...
Fuck that, I love cars...I want to experience ownership of any one I think looks cool, or can look cool, or serves a purpose or is fun to drive that's within fiscally responsible reach.
Should have known. J had a huge boner for that thing as soon as it showed up.

At the rate we're going, that should be next week sometime.

I missed that post, Maj...
stellar work as always you motherfucker!
Seriously though...Sam you are right and in hindsight when after a week and she wasn't sold on it suiting her needs I kept thinking...shit...was I the one that LOVED the volvo and she was the perfect scapegoat to own it or was it her...
She does love it but not as much as I did.
I just tossed some all weather mats in it and the privacy trunk shade that was missing...already have some H&R's ready to go on it and then I'll roll fenders and get some spacers.
being back in another Honda product, I can tell you that I'm not itching to move away from them again...
meaning, there's a certain peace of mind owning a brand I know well, that I expect parts prices on, that I have friends at a dealership nearby willing to work on it...
Honda is the shit...I knew it at 17 years old when I got my first hatch, and I know it now.
