Road Rage + Car Make
Administrators-If this topic has already been discussed, please feel free to remove it. I searched the forum but could not find one on it specifically so I have decided to start one. Thanks
I have been inspired to write about road rage and car makes because I've noticed a pattern of behavior that seem correlated by the type of cars people drive.
Lately, I have noticed BMW drivers getting very angry. For example, today, I passed two BMW's and instantly, they started racing with me. One was a 328i and the other was a 740i, I think. I just let them pass, as I was not trying to race and when the 328i passed, he stamped on his brakes probably just to annoy me.
It has not been the first time a BMW driver has done this. It seems BMW drivers cannot believe that other drivers have the gall to pass them and when others do, they feel insulted or indignant and punish the offending motorist.
I've had a BMW before (540i) and I admit they are decent driving machines, when things are working, but they aren't a great improvement over Acura or the Subaru I am currently driving.
Has anyone else noticed a pattern of driving correlated to the Car Make?

Hey newb, it hasn't been "lately" that Bimmer drivers act/drive a certain way.
As you said:
Out of all the car makes, Bimmer drivers are the easiest to categorize.
I hope I can afford a Bimmer one day : wish :

Yes. Most BMW drivers = douchbags. BMW's drive nice and handle great compared to other offerings but they aren't really anything to brag about. I've seen people who have the shittiest, lower end one being the one doing this kind of crap. Fellow BMW driver here.

My friend, BMWs have been the chariot of dicks worldwide since the beginning of time
That being said, you'll find road rage in every kind of car. It just seems more "noticeable" in certain cars because you could probably come up with a reason for that road rage.
For example, if I see a 328i driving aggressively or intentionally trying to piss other drivers off, it's plausible to think that the car was bought by some poor fuck who thinks he's now officially the shit because his car has the blue and white roundel in front, even though it'd probably get smacked upside the head by a V6 Camry in a race. EDIT: With respect to tmnhs81, and any other down-to-earth BMW drivers.
If we saw, say a Nissan Versa driving aggressively, we probably wouldn't pay that much attention. Hey, it's a Versa, nobody can be fooled into thinking it's a fast car by any stretch.

Aman-that's true, I probably do notice it more because of the make of car they are driving. However, overwhelmingly, the road rage I face on my commutes are from BMW drivers. Strangely enough, I do not experience this type of aggression from Mercedes-Benz or Audi drivers. When I had my BMW, true enough, the car felt solid and invincible but I never felt like a race car driver in it.
I suppose one cannot help to stereotype a car make by its driver. For example, I cannot help but to laugh when I see a Prius ambling (driving slowly) in the fast lane or a Smart car panic-braking in corners.
Overall, I wonder whether the car drives the owner or whether the owner drives the car...

I have had issues with Ford Ranger drivers in the past. This generally happens if I pass one on a windy two lane road but sometimes on regular streets where they will try to snake into a queue for an offramp or turn. Has anyone else noticed this too? No issues with other pickups, but it always seems to be a Ranger for some reason when it is a pickup.

I find Volvo drivers to be the most passive-aggressive fucktards on the road today. Usually driven by a frazzle-haired woman who hasn't bothered with makeup in 25 years.

A huge percentage of people buy cars for the name, or bling factor, as opposed to how good the car actually is. I know a person with a Mustang, and another with a C300. The Mustang owner admitted that the car would have to be absolutely terrible behind the wheel to sway him from purchasing one. The C300 owner has started wearing Mercedes-Benz belts and throwing around the name like he was born with the tri-star on his forehead.
My point is that many of us on here do our best to look at a car objectively, and factor in a lot of things. Drivetrain power vs. efficiency, maintenance costs, space, wear and tear, things that probably could not receive a fuck from the general public if it held a gun to their head.
It seems like you made an educated decision when you bought your BMW, and looked well past the bling factor. Many people don't, and instead believe that the badge makes the car. Hence your boy-racer in a 328.

I'm not weeding out 3 series owners, but many of them are spoiled kids who think that "I have a BMW, I'm better than you" and then you have that solid few percent who drive it properly like Crazy Acura and cM3go and the rest.
I'll admit I've pulled a douche move in my 7 one or twice when people were pushing my buttons; but haven't we all in all of our cars?
POS drivers, I meant prius, can be real big idiots at time. Let's just hold up the left lane or lets drive like I'm better than the rest of you. Anytime someone mentions a prius to me in a conversation about cars, all I have to say is "I downshift to single digit MPG when I see a Prius, the end."

Some a-hole in a C300 was chasing a Genesis 2.0T through a 2 lane parkway with double lines until the S turns clear. The Genesis cut between me and a ford econoline missing us both by a foot or less The van hit the brakes closing the gap so the c300 almost slammed into me. He was then madd at me for some reason. For a good 5 miles I was doing 55 in a 45 along with the van. He was honking and hi beaming and tailgating. After it opened up he roared away. My girl gave him the finger for being such an ass. He was making dick moves like he was going to ram me off to the divider.
For those from NYC it was on the Jackie Robinson Parkway. Heading east.

^^ Thank god that none of that shit happened to me... I would have went ape shit someone honks, hi beam, and tailgating me. I would definitely slowing down just piss that person off, and match the speed limit to that van to trap that bitch ass.
