Ride in Phaeton (quick review)

My friends dad picked up a phaeton w12 and he let his son take it out so me and a few friends could go to the movies and dinner

he let us take his 911 turbo but there were 4 and we didn't fit

So anyway, we pimped the phaeton and i have to say its really impressive. cool features:

heated/cooled/massaging seats all around, rear seats headreasts adjusts to your weight
proximity and entry method is cool
you turn the key to start it, and then let it go and it starts by itself
monitors tire pressure in all 4 tires and full size spare
cigarette lighter is actually xenon rechargable flashlight
backup sensors are these cool lights in every corner
full adjustable suspension. we had it on hard and it was nice and tight, and when going over cobblestones we put it to soft and didn't even feel them
you can set up drivers and all the suspension, mirrors, seat settings to to them

things i didn't like.
when the vents up front are closed and fan is going fast, it diffuses the air through the dashboard and it whistles
apparently the car is so wired that it has quirks, like the vents randomly open and close while they are driving

he was babying the car, under 2000 rpm's shift, and we averaged 10.8 mpg

compared to the 7 series:

the 7 series draws a picture of your surroundings as a backup sensors, which is a lot cooler.
honestly, the computer system was complicated, maybe not idrive, but for the tech savvy, i cant imagine idrive being harder, seeing as for the phaeton they teach you how to use it.

if you ask me, id go for the bmw (assuming v8's), but this thing would be a close close 2nd because of awd and a few other features.

also, this thing was crazy fast for 5,500 lb's

well, this was a w12 vs a v8 bmw, so it was obviously much stronger, especially down low by 1500 rpm's

you could tell it was super-smooth power like nothing i had experienced (because of 12 cyl) but lets be honest, 5.9, even in a car that big, is not all that fast

It's a cool car and I like it a lot. There's a already a lot of them rolling around back home and every time I see one, I want one. I guess Dr. Piestreisch was right about the "stealth wealth".

I think it's a nice car but I can't see it being a strong seller as how many people are willing to spring for a VW when the same co is making a large luxury car ( audi A8) or they can get a 745I for around the same amount?

I wouldn't spend this much amount of money on a Volkswagen, no way. I would pick a V8 Lexus LS430 or BMW 545i or M-B E500 over this W12 Phaeton in a heartbeat.

VW owns Bentley, right? Bentley would sell the hell out of a $96k car way before VW sells a $96k, imho...It's just psychology. Hmm...I could buy a $100k volkswagen or I could get a Bentley for only $100k!!!

Bentleys image would go down if they have a 100k car.

Neither have I around NoVA, but I saw 2 black A8L today alone.
Go figure.
I also saw three 03 CL's on the way to work today, which surprised me more than the 2 A8Ls

True...it'd be more of a "quick fix" or an adjustment for Bentley to hit a new segment of customers rather than maintain the image that they currently have...
