Retrofit question

So I'm retrofitting my headlights right? Well, I want to put some vinyl for a backing behind the projector shroud to cover up the projector housing bolts and what not and wanted to know, how hot is it going to get in there with 35 watt D2S HIDs?

BTW, inside the headlight housing, not the projector housing.

The reason why I'm asking is because I don't want the vinyl to catch on fire or melt. That would suck.

Why don't you just paint it?

Because you can still see the bolts. Even when painted. I want it to look super clean. Most of the best retrofits had some kind of backing.

I put the material that I was going to put in the headlight housing in the oven at 300 degrese for 20 minutes and they didn't catch on fire. Do you think that it would get over 300 degrese inside the headlight housing? (not the projector housing)

You should make a custom piece of aluminum as a shroud

I already have the shroud, this goes behind the shroud and in front of the projo housing.
Do you guys think that it will get hotter than 300 degrese in the headlight housing?

Crap.... well, that is directly on the bulb though and the bulb gets I'm sure over 500 degrese so it should be alot cooler in the headlight housing. Most of the heat will be in the projector housing anyway.

You'll be fine. Use ABS plastic, you can get 1/8" thick sheets from ebay, cut a hole in the middle preferably 1/4 inch wider than the part of the projector which it will cover. Then cut around the sheet to make it fit the headlight opening proper, use heat gun to make it fit snugly and once done cover the projector with a nice shroud.

What sort of projector is it? TSX, S2k, TL? and what sort of headlight is it going into?

You could also try bakers silicone. That stuff can be heated to 450F without an issue. And not melt.

Hmm, I'll look into that. Could you cut that stuff with sissors?

They are TSX projos that I color modded. Here is a link to my build so far.

I thought of that but It's kinda hard to cut and I keep messing up with the dremel last time I tired it with aluminum.
