Pathetic...but, not a surprise. If you visited or live in Vancouver, you'd know. There are peeps half your age or barely can see over the dash driving in a car 2-3 times over your paygrade. Everywhere in that city.

no, i dont have pity for the drivers - they knew the consequences. the law is just so simplistically radical and unfair - in an american's perspective. this would make for a good case study in a BAR exam - it really opens the flood gates.
They do. It's called income tax.

In all seriousness, I think the Swiss actually do that. There was someone who got pulled over in an SLR for speeding and got charged $100,000 or something like that, because he's a multi-millionaire. It's slightly understandable, because a $60 ticket wouldn't really discourage him from speeding.

lol. If you go to Richmond you'll occasionally see the 20 year-old girl driving a new R8 well under the speed limit, the 19 year-old guy with a spanking new R8 V10, or the middle-aged Chinese lady driving a Bentley/Maserati.

There are no shortage of M3s either.

But I shouldn't really be complaining.

Actually, that law is more fair than a straight fine-- the intent is to hurt every violator an equal amount. A $500 fine will probably hurt a Civic owner more than a Ferrari owner, while proportionate fines would be more equal.

FWIW, Finland and some of the other Scandinavian countries do this with moving violations-- fines based on income.

There are some serious bikes here, but Okinawa has a small stretch of highway/interstate equivalent. But not too much here. In the rest of Japan, there are some numb nuts on bikes (Bozouku) but they have sanctioned track events, so a lot happens there.

In Germany, the bike thing happens on the Autobahn, but you can only top out at a certain speed before it gets unstable. Plus, you could have a 911 or S Class crawl up your behind at 160 MPH, and you'll be in a world of hurt. More sane there.

80 over the speed limit on an empty highway at like 3AM is one thing, 80 over where there's people walking nearby? Go die.

Why did the drivers receive money from the sale? Even though its a small amount that they received, they shouldnt have gotten anything back IMO.

when I'm home in SoCal... there's a paintball field that I go occasionally, located INSIDE Camp Pendleton... and yeah, they warn you about going over the speed limit once you go pass the gate. EVERYBODY that I paintball with knows better and NOT drive stupidly inside the base. Because the MP's don't take shit from anyone, especially civilians

I work next to Camp Foster. My POV license is from the base safety office.

On the base, it says 35Km/h I do 35. But even here, on a small base, Americans like to speed (relative that is, 45 in a 35) and I'll brake check and stick my arm out the window and point to the "35" signs.

If these two were doing this in Montana, on about 100 miles of interstate that will only kill themselves, then let them do it. But in an area where there are ANY pedestrians? Yeah, take the cars and if I were the judge, I'd let them sit in jail for 3 months. 2nd offense is 2 years. IMHO.
