Although a CPO 550i sweetens the deal far more than a regular used 550i, I'd still be a bit weary about buying any used German car. (And I LOVE the E60 tremendously!)

Though something like a new TL SH-AWD would could about $13k more than the Bimmer (in this scenario), the former is pretty much bullet proof with the only real pain being felt at the time of purchase.

The only problem is there's not enough highway to open it up on

I thought the "i" was forced induction, but I just read it means "injected".

How long has it been since they used a carburetor?

Dunno...their naming conventions are about as dated and stupid as can be...second only to Infiniti at this point.

Mercedes is following right along with meaningless naming convention.
I miss the days when you knew what a car was by the model. Now the S63 (for example) isn't a 6.3 as the name would inspire, but a 5.5TT. Just bring bank the S55 name.
Same with the CLA45, not a 4.5l, a 2.0T.

They have been using the "I" since the late 70s at least.

finally go the word from insurance to total out the car. will be heading to several dealerships to look at pre-owns tomorrow. so far the candidates are 2011 e350 w/sport package, 2011 535i with sport package, and 2012 335i. I know the e350 even with sports package isn't very sporty but I think it's a good highway cruiser for commute. hows the reliability on the E350? I know Mercedes are known for poor reliability and online review seem very positive on its reliability. for the same year of e350 and 535i the price on 535i seem to be around 5-8k higher than the e350. anything wrong with the e350 to make it depreciate so much quicker? when making offer for preown where is good place to place offer? 15 % off of asking price? I think the mark up is usually 20 % but i'm not sure...
