Re-registering in diff. state a 2-3 mo. process??

Well, i picked up a car (lease) in ny. after two weeks, i drove it down to miami, and now im working on getting new FL plates. first off, FL only has third party tag agencies - not done through state DMVs. so i went to a tag agency, and after trying to order my new plate through bulletproof glass in broken spanish, i finally got the request through. the tag agency needs the lienholder (lexus financial) to get their hands on the original title and mail it back to the tag agency. the ny dmv takes 4-8 weeks to get title to lexus financial. then another week for lexus financial to mail the title to florida tag agency. then the tag agency takes 1-2 weeks to process. im looking upwards to 3 months here. is this normal!?

on another note, ive noticed things down in miami are just choatic. i went to comcast today to pick up my box. i was the only english speaking person there. they had to find an employee that spoke english to help me! after a 45 minute wait in line, a brawl broke out. i was elbowed in the face, and three guys were knocked out. cops came and shut down the comcast office for the day. wtf is up with miami. i feel like ive moved to mexico city.

Dude... Miami is da bomb and crazy at the same time... Spanish is a must too! I had a cousin who lived in Stuart and we kicked in Daytona beach and Miami... I am sure its really different living there though...

Sorry to hear of all your troubles... I just changed my SLK from AR to TX tags and it went without a hitch (I did have the signed title in hand)... we talked with the guy at DMV at least as long about random stuff as long as it took for him to change it all over... also, I got my comcast boxes sent to the house and they arrived yesterday... installed them today... random overlap of our lives...

I don't know what your talking about but in Volusia County we have our own DMV that issues license-plates and titles and the like. You will need to have the tittle in hand in order to get it registered in FL with everything filled out properly saying that you have purchased the car. Then you will need the bill of sale and as well any other associated documents.

I will warn you in advance that you will have to pay taxes on your purchase. The DMV won't issue a title nor registration nor plates until you pay it either. I suggest you call up your selling dealer and have the get some temp tags made up for future dates. They should be valid for around 90 days.

EDIT: here's a link from the county website about their offices:
