Question for you guys...

Today the car plowed into a Yaris parked near the sidewalk. Our XJ8 is in pretty bad shape right now, but the extent of the damage is uncertain. I know this is unrelated to the 3G TL, but you guys are pretty knowledgeable and I just want to figure out the best course of action. Insurance doesn't cover it, because apparently my dad refused collision coverage.

Oh, that is going to hurt unless your dad has lots of disposable income!
I can't imagine that damage costing less than $5K to repair, even assuming the frame is undamaged (and I wouldn't bet on that).
It may be cheaper to get a replacement used XJ8 given the amount of damage and Jag depreciation.

my guess would be about 5K for a good job, new hood, lights, grille, bumper, frame check, alignment, etc. Suspension work misc parts under the hood, mounts, clips and paint.

I agree, there is more damage then I think a lot can see. Depending on the year that Jag may have aluminum body panels, at which point I think you will be over $10k between the panels/hood and paint. If it is older and is not aluminum bodied I would guess around $7k when all is said and done, Jag parts are expensive and it looks like a lot is going to need to be replaced. Bumper, grill, 2 head lamps, fender and what ever else is broken is going to add up in a big hurry.

the hood looks like it can be saved, but getting one from the scrap yard will def cost less. The fender is a loss, but again, scrapyard parts for that.
new bumper and other replacement parts that will need to be ordered.

I would say around 6-6500 with all parts labor and a good paint job

I agree. And that's hoping that there's no frame damage.

You can get 1999-2001 XJ8's between $5,000-$7,000 all over auto trader. Yours looks a little older and parts may be expensive and they are not worth much. Good luck!

It's a '98 model, so I don't think they started using aluminum panels yet.

either find a junked car that has a good front end (good luck)
or you might have to consider the car totalled.

Dude, if its not your fault then it doesn't have anything to do with your insurance. The other dudes insurance should be paying for it. That is if you filed a police report, which I am hoping you did, or else you're fcuked.

"the car plowed into a Yaris" makes it sound like it just plain happened by itself... more like "I crashed the Jag into a parked Yaris".

Right Front Fender $249.99.
I'd email them and see if you could get all the right internal parts for the headlight assembly. By the pics of the wrecked car they have, it still may be in good condition. All you will need it to have everything painted.

Front Bumper $259.99

That is going to be a shit ton of money. My dad had a 98 XJR and was rear ended at 6 mph. Offset the bumper a little bit and the bill was about 3.5k. No body damage. There was something that got a little fucked up with the drive shaft but basically it is just an expensive fucking car to fix. I would not be surprised if your body shop came back with an estimate of 10k.
