Question on tires here

Took my car in for a free rotation and they told me that they can't do a tire rotation for me because my front two wheels are too worn down. Is this true or were they trying to get more money out of me?

It is generally advised that the rear tires have the thicker tread. If the rears are too worn, your car could fishtail in bad weather, which is more difficult to control than the fronts skidding.

If your fronts are currently really worn, they'd be on the rear after a rotation.

What wackjum said. Here's why

You also didn't state how worn the front tires are. If you don't have a tread depth gauge, use a penny or quarter to measure. If they're close to being worn, get them replaced.

you didnt mention what car you have, but going by your user name, its pretty safe to assume that you have a front wheel drive Acura.

FWD vehicles wear the front tires more quickly because they are the driving wheels and the steering wheels.

have the tires rotated at EVERY oil change or about 6k miles to have the tires wear evenly. this 6k interval will also allow you to spot uneven tire wear early. irregular tire wear = bad alignment

I think that is only half true. all of my cars FWD or RWD, my front tires have always worn out faster than the rears without doing burnouts or donuts.

I think for everyday normal driving, steering wears out the tires faster than the actual rotation even on RWD cars <--- just my theory. FWD cars wear out even faster because of the weight + steering.
